Back in college a buddy of mine discovered when he did massive amounts of LSD he didn't have tics for like a week afterwards. This led him to doing massive amounts of LSD every weekend for a summer. Then one time while he was tripping he climbed in a giant box and like 6 of us started beating the box. For the next week he thought he was a box of cereal and kept screaming at people not to open him. He finally came out of that when the tics returned and he decided he'd much rather live with tics than as a box of cereal.

@@mithshude And then when you try to explain to them that it can make certain mental health conditions worse, they lose their crap, because since it doesn't cause those problems for them, it must not cause them for anyone else. I think medical marijuana has an amazing potential to give us a lot of new treatment options for a lot of different conditions, and that recreational weed should be legal, but potheads need to understand they are not helping their cause when they make exaggerated BS claims.
@mithshude
@mithshude 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnjones_1501 true, and i agree fully on it not being miracle medicine, a good example being the fact that it can trigger schizophrenia if you have "grounds" for the disease (can't come up with a good translation in english, basically having it in your genes i think). but in general, it is fairly safe although has some positives and some negatives to it. overdoing, like with everything, is always bad though. main problem i've found from experience is that the indica/mix versions screw up your motivation completely (the most liked because that's the stereotypical high feel) the pure sativa ones are great for getting shit done though, you don't really get high, just kinda "energized" instead. but this one is rarely used by stoners because it doesn't give that "high" feeling

The marijuana one, I've had that suggested to me ALL the time. I don't have Tourette's but I have OCD, Social Anxiety Disorder as well as some physical problems, including genetic Essential Tremor and possible Fibromyalgia (I have chronic pain, chronic fatigue and brain fog, but the dr's won't listen to me). But it was from when I got hit by a car while having a tourettes attack (they were speeding the wrong way down a one way street and blew a red light) I rolled onto the hood, they reversed and took off so fast I just rolled onto the road all shocked and confused if that actually happened cause of how fast it all happened... This made me think of when a doctor (she wasn't specialized in this feild) suggested a cure to me when I was a child. It's not a very funny story tho. Back then I haven't been diagnosed and she said she used to have something like this. If I try hard enough to focus and control it, I would be able to stop my tics. She also suggested a 7 days meditation camp and stuff. I tried really hard to stop my tics everyday and it never worked. I was convinced that it was my fault I acted so weird and I just failed to control my body. Ended up hating myself for a long time. When I finally went to see a doctor and was explain that it's not something I can just stop doing by force of will I actually broke down with relief. So yeah, even if someone seems like they have the same illness as you, don't just throw out cure suggestions without really understanding what it is, especially with children.

I know that I've been guilty in the past of suggesting things for people to try that might be useful when they have something physically or mentally wrong. I know it's awful that I have, but it was a genuine desire to help somebody. Like, maybe something I say could be something they had never thought of before. But I wouldn't try making suggestions for something as serious as cancer or tourettes, just as examples. I really do hope that somebody creates a cure someday. I genuinely want you and others like you to not have to suffer and to be able to do the things that it keeps you from being able to do. You're incredibly strong, and I appreciate that you can put yourself out there like this to de-mystify and de-stigmatize something that so many of us know nothing about.

I got heavy into fishing as a teenager and not only does it calm me it also requires laser focus. As someone with a mild case of autism learning to stay focused is really important because as a teen I had quite a few at fault car accidents. To be clear at fault accidents have become a thing of the past. For my collection of neurological symptoms a small dose of Luvox takes the edge off but still allows me to be myself. Without it my tics (stuttering to the point of suffocating being the worst) become unbearable. Now at nearly 40 years old you wouldn't know I had anything going on with me unless I'm really stressed, tired, and/or anxious. I owe my ability to be a functioning human being to Luvox and fishing.

I have tourette's and yeah, heard some of these. A guy I worked with at my last job would bring up weed as a cure every week like clockwork. Have a beer on friday? Time to hear his thoughts on weed. He meant well, but come on dude.

It's not a cure. But THC does help my tourette's. Interestingly enough CBD can trigger my tics.

It would be interesting if you could try the psychedelic substance DMT. Not for a cure per se, but you could get to meet the inner entities of your subconscious face to face. Sounds like meeting the one who swears through your tics would be a fun experience!

I got told to pinch myself everytime i wanna tic as hard as i can cuz "pain will distract your attention" It does kinda work but that's just trying to suppress tics that are already there and it's pretty painful

Weed was recommended to me for my ADD. Never tried it, but there are VERY mixed results so for some it works, but it can go VERY badly for others. Not worth the risk for some

That's true for many medical issues too. We do need to study it more, but the over criminalising of it makes research extremely difficult.

While I don't have tourettes, I do have mental health issues, and just the way some of these people think, let alone how they come up with these "cures" must be wild.

If you want a more serious answer to the cure / treatment, there is some research currently underway in Lubeck, Germany in the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein. The research suggests an effective treatment using Electrical Neurostimulation, like the method currently used to treat epilepsy using an implant in the brain. The Journals were only produced in November of 2020, so it is at an early stage.

Sometimes the things she says that really surprise aren’t because of her tourettes. Like good surprised, cause she’s just so honest and straightforward.
