The Giri choco is also done in Korea. But also some girls give chocolate on February 14 to someone they like to confess their affection. March 14 is white day when the male give a gift of white chocolate or marshmallows in return to express their affection back. April 14 is Black Day when those who remain single eat Jajangmyeon a black noodle dish.

Lindt and Sprungli makes chocolate bars that are at least 70% cocoa and the higher the percentage of cocoa the less sugar is contained in the chocolate. When you get to 90-100% there’s no sugar at all, “If it’s bitter it’s better “ they say.

@@JillWhitcomb1966 When I was a kid back in the 80s, my parents had my brother and I sift through our candy on Halloween and pick out all of the Nestle products. They'd also have us both wear "Boycott Nestle" pins when trick or treating. Initially we both whined about it because we were kids and wanted more candy, but after they told us what Nestle was doing with their powdered milk in third world countries, we genuinely didn't even want it. My father was a Congregationalist minister, so now I'm wondering if church groups were the frontline in the boycott against the company back then...

@@JillWhitcomb1966 Good for them! They're a pretty sh*tty company and I try to avoid buying anything from them. I never had Quik or a Nestle Crunch bar until adulthood and when I finally did, I found out I wasn't missing anything. I don't know the specifics, but I once heard something about Nestle's business practices being used as an inspiration for the story for one of the Daniel Craig James Bond movies. (Something about hoarding water, I think.) If that's true, then damn! Being used as a model for a Bond villain's evil plans is about as shady as it gets!

We do NOT get our taste from our sense of smell. I was born with no sense of smell. I can taste everything you can. Your brain mixes the senses together. Some people, when they have a cold and loose their smell and taste, it's because your brain is not used to just one of the senses. I am missing the wonderful mix of both, but my tongue works just fine.

A quick note about the earl of Montagu's frozen dessert: Snow and salt wasn't mixed with the part that was eaten. Snow (or ice) and salt was mixed in a big bowl or bucket, and then a smaler container with the dessert in it was placed in the frozen salt mix. They didn't have electric refrigerators, so this was how they made ice cream in the 17th century.

rant comment which you can skip if triggered: i'd rather face unhappy male coworkers than be forced into buying expensive giri choco having to spend my own hard earned money (which i earn less of, than male coworkers having same positions). or, if i'm really forced to do it, i might slip a note or two saying "lose some weight" or something. tho honestly, how can you force anyone into doing something that's not written in the criminal code of law? i might consider giving chocolate as a cute gesture but *not* when it's forced/"obligatory", *not* when not just any chocolate would do but only expensive ones: is that what you mean by "tasty enough"? because we don't know if so-so-nantoka san likes milk chocolate and thinks dark chocolate is not tasty and then, despite being given an expensive dark chocolate, would still harass us at work for giving him something in his own opinion not tasty enough? *then why not skip it altogether because result is the same but you can save money spent on expensive chocolate* - only choco manufacturers win in this scenario of "obligatory" chocolates, because seemingly men use this situation to be like fussy *ungrateful* babies and if anything goes wrong with the gift choice - they will abuse you. talk about being taken for granted, talk about being pressured and abused. wtf, time to stop giving into this bs.
