Hongli in the end became his father. Paranoid. Suspicious and overwhelmed by the throne to the point enemies were everywhere. He couldnt see that there was a woman who just wanted to love him for him. Not the crown. She wasnt scheming behind his back about the throne. She just wanted him. And when he finaly saw it. It was too late. I hope that the two met in heaven and had a proper life in reincarnation where they CAN be happy. (Yes i knwo these are characters but im a sucker for them! lol)

I always love this scene because he was such a crap husband to Ruyi that even her very worst enemies called him out for how he treated her! I’m glad he lived with regret while Ruyi got to have peace Ruyi’s eventual downfall was having too much faith in him and Lingwei’s downfall was having no faith in him to begin with.

I just noticed that the only people who called Ruyi by her new name "Ruyi" were Empress Dowager & Qianlong. It is because Zenhuan believes in Ruyi that she called her by that name? Or is it because she granted Ruyi her new name so she called Ruyi "Ruyi"?

Is most likely because calling her by her old name would make the queen dowager remember Ruyi’s auntie, her enemy. The GD gave her spared her life and gave her a new start(name)

it's probably just a matter of decorum. you may notice no one besides the emperor and empress dowager actually calls her by her personal name at all, most refer to her by her title (and hailan just calls her sister). it was a bit different when she still was named qingying because back then she was an unmarried girl and then a second wife of a prince, not a high ranking consort of a whole emperor.

What is the reason for bowing down to each flag? What does it accomplish? What’s going to be done with the flags afterwards?

Those are scripture/prayer flags, each bearing the name of the person that Yanwan directly or indirectly killed because of her schemings. Bowing to them is akin to admitting to her crimes and seeking forgiveness from the deceased. Obviously, she didn't want to do it, so they had to drag her around and force her to bow. Later, those flags were sent to the prayer hall.

The bow is to show repentance for every life she's taken. The masters in Anhua Palace Hall would pray for the deceased souls and chant some Sutras, then the flags would be burnt because of the ritual of Buddhism.

You have to watch the whole series (it's on Amazon Prime) but the flags represent everyone Consort Ling killed to attain her position with the Harem. The flags were then sent to their temple to be prayed over so the souls of those hurt would find peace. Consort Ling was very good at manipulation and in the uncut version of this scene you see the Emperor was about to forgive her (yet again) despite all the evidence presented. So Ruyi (the Empress) made a flawless plan, to involve the Empress Dowager which left no room for Consort Lings lies.
