I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree about the deeper meaning. I don't think it's about loss as much as it's about seeing people for who they really are, and moving on. It's a big part of tying things up for Michael's character development. Ryan was his kryptonite; he could never admit that Ryan was a bad friend. This is the episode where Michael finally sees Ryan for who he actually is but still treats him like a friend regardless. Dwight refuses to move on from his past, so he recreates his childhood thru Hay Place. He's jealous of Moze, a perpetual child, and his unwillingness to grow makes him lose Angela. Angela finally moves on from Dwight when she sees him for the immature person he really is.
