I grew up in East Harlem & everything he said was spot on. That dead end with St.Anns & the nuns was a dangerous spot because it was never lit. A lot of people didn’t know the chopped cheese originated on 110th & 1st so I’m glad he said that.

This area is always interesting to me. They got CitiBikes outside of those projects posted up lol. I don’t think I would’ve seen that in a million years. I always chuckle when I see… “out of towners” bopping through the hood with their backpacks looking at folks in their “natural habitat” lol. It’s so odd. Gentrification has already taken over a good chunk of Harlem. Even in the most hood spots there’s some brunette from Texas who “loves Harlem” and claims it like they’re born n raised. Or some transplant from North Carolina who wants to get closer to their “black roots” after learning how to be black in college lol.

I went to school here, MCSM. It’s nice to see the neighborhood again, so many memories. He wasn’t lying about the chop cheese sandwiches, they are the best. I used to get the BLT or chopped cheese from the deli after school almost everyday. Also the dude was on point, he really knows his stuff. Great video!

I spent 2 years in East Harlem as a missionary. When I go to New York now with other people they never understand why I couldn’t care less about anything but going up past 100th street and Lexington and hitting up the bodegas and hanging out with all the good people there in Harlem. I saw some crazy shit when I was walking and knocking doors in all those projects but man I miss and love the people of Spanish Harlem. The Dominicans and Puerto Ricans especially, good food! Great people! Thanks for taking me back with this video!

Born and raised in East Harlem! I love my East Harlem, and I love how everything is so accurate! I grew up on 108th and lex! Keep it up my guy, I love how happy you embrace our east Harlem! You should also talk about the racism there was between Puertoricans and Mexicans in the late 80’s - 90’s. I’m Mexican, but the stories my pops would tell me when he immigrated in East Harlem, was insane. I love this! Keep it up man 🙏🏽

​@@RudyGuzman00 You from L.A? You'll find large Mexican communities in Jackson Heights, Elmherst in Queens and Brighton beach (not far off from Coney Island) or Sunset Park in Brooklyn. You should go and check out one of those neighborhoods I've listed so you get a good comparison between the east coast and west coast Mexican communities/culture and way of life.Other than that make sure you hit up the tourist spots in the city like times square, 125th st in Harlem, Yankee Stadium , Coney Island etc etc.

Sooo right about Hajji’s…anyone that lived there and came back, had to make that stop to get that chopped cheese…the best. I remember when the bakery first opened up…went in there a few times…but they never compared to the bodega on 109th for my breakfast sandwiches and Hajji’s on 110th…💕💕
