Jaromír Jágr about Juraj Slafkovský: HE IS AN EXCELLENT PLAYER. IT WAS FIRST TIME ABOUT A YEAR AGO WHEN JURAJ INTERESTED ME - THE NATIONAL TEAMS OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC AND SLOVAKIA PLAYED A PREPARATORY MATCH BEFORE THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. I NEEDED A NEW PLAYER FOR MY TEAM (RYTÍŘY KLADNO, THE CZECH REPUBLIC) AND I WANTED TO SEE WHAT PLAYERS WE HAVE THERE AND WHAT SLOVAKS. I TURNED ON THE TV AND SOME PLAYER JUST HAD THE PUCK AT THE MANTINEL - HE WAS VERY STRONG HANDLING THE PUCK, WITH BRILLIANT READING OF THE GAME... I SAW - HE PLAYS SIMILAR STYLE LIKE ME AND I WOULD LIKE HIM TO MY TEAM. HOWEVER, THEN I FOUND THAT HE'S ONLY SEVENTEEN AND I UNDERSTANDED THAT I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE BECAUSE HE WILL PLAY IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LEAGUE THAN THE CZECH EXTRALIGA. THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME HE CAUGHT MY ATTENTION. I LOOKED AT HIM AND I UNDERSTOOD HE PLAYS LIKE ME. JURAJ IS INVENTIVE, PLAYFUL AND HAS AN UNUSUALLY HIGH HOCKEY IQ. And really - Juraj is like a small child in a man's body - he loves hockey and people. He reminds me of the Brazilian soccer player Ronaldinho (from FC Barcelona 2003-2008) - he enjoys every second on the playing field and even if something goes wrong, he doesn't lose his smile and keeps going... Juraj & Filip - they've known each other since childhood, that's why they're so familiar - we've known them like this for several years - they get along on and off the ice. They played together in the same line with very talented Dalibor Dvorský (born 2005 = next year DRAFT) in the National team of Slovakia...

I love a lot about Shane Wright. For that reason, I spent two months convincing myself that Slav was a filip zadina 2.0. As I take the blinders off, I’m feeling very positive about this pick regardless of my preference. I genuinely hope both players have hall of fame careers

As a Slovak he is our greatest talent since Marian Gaborik. I am sure he will be great!

@@jozinojozinko2385 Hossa bol draftovany z 12 miesta a Gaborik z 3, ale ano Hossa bol o niečo lepší/úspešnejší. No Gaborika brzdili ustavičné zranenia.

People, give him a chance to show what's in him... No arrogant shane wright who heard he was going to be nr. 1..years ahead... Give him a chance and I tell you that Montreal did not make a mistake .

Best buy ever!U will see! I saw young Satan,Gaborik,Chara,Hossa etc Slovak players but i think Juraj is better complete player.Strong,speedy and technicaly hes awesome!

We'll see what happens, but so far I trust the new management team. I wanted to trade down for Nazar so I went into the draft expecting to be disappointed.

man,... the way how Cooley talked with Slafkovsky was really amazing,... i really think they wish the best for each other, sadly Wright looks a bit more childish in this way,.. his gratulation looked so fake because of "picture smile",... always watch the body language,... i think thats the reason why they didnt pick him, he is good but not grown at all in head,.. sorry for my english

If you watch the ESPN version, Wright was the first prospect to go over and congratulate him. The camera on this version panned away to the crowd at that time.

I was almost positive they were taking Wright up until it leaked that they done one last interview with Slav right before the draft. I really hope this was the best pick, I trust Gorton and Hughes, time will tell

Time will tell, I wasn't in favor of Wright just due to the little I had seen of him this year, I wasn't impressed at all but thought I just caught him at a bad time (He did take a puck to the face vs Hamilton so that might have thrown him off his game) but I wanted to trade down for Nazar who I really liked. But I don't have time to scout for the draft so I don't really get caught up in pushing for any player, just hope they make the right call.

Who or what is the best - must be judged according to what the goal is - if I want to buy a vehicle, I must first clarify what I will need it for and not ask which car is the best or what I like. If it is for plowing a field or transporting straw, a Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Corvette will probably not be very suitable. We can see this beautifully in the decision of NJD - they were extremely eager specifically for Slafkovský, not for a good forward - they didn't need that. If the Habs had selected Wright, Šimon Nemec would not have been the No. 2 pick, but Slafkovský would have been. This fact in itself shows how valuable a player Slafkovský is - even a club that doesn't need him, but wants him, would take him. The same cannot be said for Wright or Cooly. I don't want to diminish their quality in any way - there are a lot of hockey players who were not drafted at the top and still had excellent careers. They just proved their character. From Juraj - I am convinced that he has everything perfect sorted in his head and knows that is not guaranteed anything by No. 1 in the draft - rather the opposite. The Habs have acquired a special person. I wish all the guys good health and diligence in developing their talents.
