@LED I understand your point however, overly pessimistic views for the country is also no good. Positive changes are often disregarded. The comparisons are often made with first world countries which have totally different culture and history, these tiktokers are making a trend of overlooking the progress of the Philippines over these past few years. I also aspire for change, who doesn't? What I'm worried about is the rise of youth adopting the Western (mainly American) pessimistic mindset with less counterpart content creators who highlights the culture and progress of the Philippines. Pausing to reflect and truly feel appreciative for the millions of things going well in our country is one of the most valuable practices the present generation can do. In short, I am deeply concerned with the lack of balance of perspective of the youth. Degrading the country is becoming a trend instead of enriching it.

Well, how can you not be pessimistic with the country's state? The controversies, the wrong, and the exposed are very prominent and non-ephemeral(stays with the toxic traits, mentality, complexes). Also, how the older generation suppress the voice of those younger than them who only desire a better country to live in, and a sustainable place where we foster development and diversity. Ang problema kasi eh nag sstick yung mga pinoy sa older things which restricts us from moving on, I get that you associate "development" with "americanization" but that's wrong, the country is visibly poor and needs a change. One more thing, preference on culture and appreciation is part of the freedom anyone has, anyone can appreciate and love without losing identity. And if you fear applying foreign things in the country when all we appreciate are pleasant things, then I think it's a U problem?

Actually in the philliphines everyone is kinder than almost all countries,so dont worry, some of these tiktokers are probably just being overdramatic and being edgy. But dont worry filipinos are actually Polite and friendly, When they encounter an elder person, they simply greet by saying "mano po" to the elders and no one shames a person for being fat or being lesbian/gay. Unlike some countries where there is literally racism everywhere and people who doesn't beleive in god(no offence to the other countries). Btw im not saying that no filipinos insults ugly or fat people. Only a few of them only does, and its likely that they are just kidding or just teasing you or whatever. Instead of shaming the PH we should atleast be proud of it. The only true thing about this is the "chismosa" stereotype where you will find this in every neighborhood you go to and its not even funny anymore. People will go to your house only when they need help. But dont worry this only works if you are rich. Forgot to mention that this doesn't only happen in the philliphines, but it happens to the "whole" world, so if you want to make this country the "best" then galaw galaw naman wag lang puro salita

So when Magellan discovered the Philippines, some universities in europe, particularly in Spain recognizes Magellan as the first explorer to discover the Philippines. In addition, the Philippines was actually discovered by Indonesians that came first in Mindanao region. But that time, it's pre-historic era of the Philippines and those explorers doesn't have proper name (based on my perspective only that in pre-historic era, people in Southeast Asia doesn't have proper name) so no one knows who they are. And i'm sure those explorer might change their names multiple times as they migrating in different places. Ps. It's just my perspective and i'm not master in History. :)

I'd like to say that as a Filipino, we have racism and body shaming but it's said in a roundabout manner and it applies to our insults. Colorism is very prevalent. I believe that there will always be bad people. The LGBT community here aren't burnt at the stake or any of the sort but will be bombarded with insults. Here, non-believers in Christ will be mocked or questioned. Many and most of Filipino celebrities look western or just not Filipino. Some of us believe that if they get whiter they'd be considered more attractive the cause of which is colonialism. Shaming people who don't have any education are common and are even joked about by many. Did you know if you speak "too much english" you'd be shamed? Yes, they'd say "Wow, your english is so good!" and at the same time call you an "Englishera", some may even think that you don't love your country enough. Personally, I do love my country and no I don't speak in English because I'm "brainwashed by Americans". English is considered an international language because 1,460,000,000 people which is 20% of the world poulation. " What about the poverty rate here? Data indicates that 16.6% of the population of the Philippines, or about 17.6 million people, live under the poverty line. Those who reside in rural areas have a much higher chance of experiencing poverty, with nearly one-third of those under the poverty line working as farmers." as said by the Borgen Prodject. I know that we are constantly improving but I want these facts to be stated out there -and no, I'm not a Wattpad writer

I feel for the body shaming one. I eat healthy but because my body gains weight fast, my family, family friends and neighbors tell me every single time, literally, to eat healthier because in their eyes I don't look healthy at all and when I talked back, they said they're just "concerned". It made me depressed and I can't stand it so I didn't eat for days out of spite for their words, just wanting everyone to see how damaging their words to me was. I lost lots of weight and when I can't stand the hunger, I only eat very small amount enough to last me for awhile, it made me feel sick, nauseous and weak to the point my bones softened and a little stretch made me feel like my joints are going to dislocate(it's a really painful experience too), my mom even insulted me for not able to handle simple chores because I get tired very easily but what's worse was that at that same time, everyone around me started to complement me saying that I'm actually looking pretty and healthy, quite an opposite result from what I was expecting. Its really destroying mentally and physically to experience that kind of pressure from everyone's ignorance believing that there's only one positive body type and that is to look thin. It's been 5 years now and I gained weight again because I can't stand starving myself just so people would stop shaming me for my size. Everyone kept telling me all the time, bringing up my past self everytime I talked with them saying it's more healthy comparing to the me today but I couldn't care less about their "concern" anymore. And that nonchalance I showed to everyone's "concern" made me and my parents fought over my body's condition, I told them there's nothing wrong with me but they said otherwise so my mom ended up bringing me to a clinic for blood samples trying to prove me wrong but all those blood samples came out normal, even better than I expected. I showed it to her, she read it but still tries to see any fault, there's none. So at that same day, she brought me to my doctor, the doctor looked at the lab results and said everything is normal, mom complained about my weight that I look fat and my doctor actually agreed, even told me to eat only one bowl of food 3 times a day making me really disappointed because I thought doctors should know that everyone's body and conditions are just different from each other. I don't hate everyone (other than my brother cuz he's a narcissistic piece of ugly shit that would insult me all the time, and hurt me if I tried to fight back) but I hate their ignorance

3:32 so true, some teenagers in our barangay wore croptops while hanging around our volleyball court. Now, they are called "pokpok" and "walang mararating sa buhay." The mentality of the people here really saddens me. The fact that it was so easy for them to label someone as "pokpok," and degrade them just because of wearing a fcking croptop, the audacity.

Do you know? Here in our beloved country Philippines you don't need to study law to become a judge because even you're a teacher, engineer, doctor, nurse,senior citizen, teenager,you can judge other people because Filipinos are perfect and having an abnormal atittude is "N O R M A L".

To be fair most of these negative traits are cultivated because of colonialism. For instance the 0.10 part , there is actually this precolonial tribe in Mindanao which is Teduray (Tiruray). Teduray recognises our trans brothers and sisters not based on the sex assigned at birth but based on who they really are. "In pre-colonial Philippines, transgender women were simply considered women. Period. The Teduray (Tiruray) people of Mindanao, retained this understanding, as they weren’t really colonized by Spain. Now, Spain has evolved in such a way that their gender understanding reflects our own culture’s understanding of gender before they colonized us." -Sass Ragando Sasot, 2018 here's the link if you wanted to read more about that... www-manilatimes-net.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.manilatimes.net/2018/07/10/opinion/analysis/learning-from-the-teduray-transgender-women-are-real-women/417770/amp?amp_gsa=1&_js_v=a6&usqp=mq331AQKKAFQArABIIACAw%3D%3D#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=16278031520449&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.manilatimes.net%2F2018%2F07%2F10%2Fopinion%2Fanalysis%2Flearning-from-the-teduray-transgender-women-are-real-women%2F417770

Ikr colonisers just ruined us and boom Most of our culture lost.
@user-wn3wv5bx5e2 жыл бұрын
Actually, Pre-colonial Philippines already had the concept of the lgbtq community. There's even multiple records of cross-dressing and transgender women having to oppose and fight against Spanish regime. Though again, everyone saying that the colonisers are the one ruining everything when the Philippines back then isn't all too good either, it's just in a different light. Racism between islands, ethnic cleansing, our own country had politics and ruling as the main divider between every island, they even had questionable rituals such as forcing a married man and woman to have a child, it's not too different than the colonisers themselves. Also have to add; There were Spanish Christian converters who were completely peaceful, the bad treatment, abuse and forceful conversions were really out of military and government corruption and exploitation.

I agree. It's sad that we aren't taught much about our pre-colonial history. I see a lot of outdated, racist, and eurocentric things taught in my Araling Panlipunan class. I wish DepEd would update its curriculum.
