I wouldnt knock yourself with those welds. I have seen "professional" built SEMA rigs with welds that looked like a blind 5 year old did them. Good video and good info

I usually put primer on backside of what I will be welding. Like on patch panel, door skin or in wherever places I got no access when welding is complete. Great vid sir. I might try priming metal first for rust oxidized metal before I weld. Thanks for this vid.

so if you watch 3m video, they say that you should clean off the weld through coating and get a clean surface before welding. the coating is a protection with moisture, water, etc that will prevent for future corrosion and so forth.

Weld thru paint is not a primer but a zinc coating. It is meant to go between two pieces of metal where you can't get paint. The Zinc protects the metal with galvanic action. 3M brand says to remove the coating at the weld points to avoid contamination, but I used the exact stuff you did and found the plug welds came out great. There is a bit of sputter when first striking the arc, but once struck, it sizzles nicely.

What I have read is that the weld thru primers will rust, so I think is better to clean, weld and after that apply epoxy primer, inyect or pour over lap joints

I've personally seen good and bad results using weld thru primer. I like using it where moisture will be a factory. If I can get away without it, I will. Nice experiment

i think it could be useful for spot-through welding only? dont need to weld the whole sheet when u are doing repairs on the cars?

Nice job Robbie.I have the exact same welder.Great little welder.That weld thru primer would probably work good on an axle truss or something like that....

Hy Robby, I would like to know what type of clear finish is used on your very nice eagle welding facemask. I would like to make mine the same :-) I assume it is spatrk resistant clear finish. Best Regards, Hans

It's not exactly prime. It's just a zink that. It's not technically weld through. You should weld to bare metal. What I do for plug holes after I have everything coated. I'll hold up my panels and ground down a drill bit the use the drill bit inside my plugs to remove the weld through so I'm welding to bare metal. You'll still get . Contamination in your world if you do not remove the waltz through. It states it on the can to remove the weld through were you'll be welding. It also has no binding agents ing agents in it so nothing will stick to it like primers or paint so watch the overspray

I used that brand on my stiffeners on my xj I didnt have a good time with it made a splattery shit mess made the job 10x harder, everything was cleaned well too just gave me hell

That's good to know. I really don't have much experience with it. Stiffeners is exactly the kind of job I would think this would be useful for. Welding on the un channel is tough anyway....

@@MuddyBeards4X4 yeah I think the shitty metal jeep used was more to blame, I also used it on the inside of my trusses and c gussets and it worked well there

@@brianpardee1281 I had the same experience while doing the same thing... i ended up hitting the places i wanted to weld with a wire brush on an angle grinder to remove the primer from where i needed to weld. i was still happy that i used it though, cause at least the metal between the frame and stiffeners have some kind of paint on them. regular paint would have burned off and it cant be painted afterwards...
