Maple's lookin' super!! Congrats on your progress! Maybe you could drop some insight as to how you determined what weight you would not drop below? I know cut off differs from dog to dog, what signs helped you determine it? Was there a drop off in performance / endurance during your known peak workout week, or a slight difference in temperament or combination thereof? Again, keep up all your hard work & efforts with the pack!
@genuineapbt6690
@genuineapbt6690 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the encouragement. Good question. Maple’s temperament didn’t change nor did her eagerness or determination to work extremely hard. We always want those traits to stay consistent. What can and sometimes does happen, is if we’re not keeping really good DAILY track of results, and making adjustments we can affect the power and endurance even if the dog is willing. There are 2 reasons I didn’t condition her a bit more (cut off) in order to peak her out, in addition to what I mentioned in the video about not being able to work her for 12 weeks the way I planned. 1. I didn’t have an actual conformation show. So there’s no goal set as a scheduled peak day. 2. Because we’re breeding her in June (if she stays on track with her heat cycles) I wanted to start prepping her for that, as far as rest, feed, and exercise (not conditioning). Also, weighing her was part of it but not a major factor as it would of been in a “HISTORICAL KEEP”. In that, peaking the dog at a contracted weight is the goal. Currently, when competing in conformation, the component of what the dog looks like is a major goal and should be kept in mind in order to know when to stop conditioning. This is why historical keeps can be and are super helpful for legal competition today but only partially. They share a lot of the same conditioning methods but the end goal is different. So you can’t just solely use a historical keep when competing in conformation today. You can certainly implement parts of it. One last and interesting thing to, sometimes the judge at a conformation show might of been active in dog matching in the past. He might look for a dog that would have looked physically ready for historical competition and use this a his standard. This might differ slightly from a judge that doesn’t have this past. It could be the difference between 1st & 2nd place. Long answer. Hope it answers your question.

Is she more natural or did you put her through a keep?
@genuineapbt6690
@genuineapbt6690 2 жыл бұрын
I would say it’s more of a natural genetic result. A couple months ago I intended to put her through a solid conditioning program for 12 weeks. Where I wouldn’t miss a single day but I was not able to do that due to work and other commitments. So I only worked her 3 to 4 days a week and tweaked her feed and rest. Thanks for the question and for watching.

What you feed after workout and supple ments
@genuineapbt6690
@genuineapbt6690 Жыл бұрын
I usually feed organ meat after work outs, like beef liver, chicken liver and gizzards. Some days I do it while the their breathing has normalized a bit but their heart rate is still a bit elevated. Because of the soft tissue of organ meats and the high acid in the dogs stomach, they begin to digest almost immediately after being consumed. Then because the heart is still beating above normal, the digested vitamins, minerals and other nutrients enter the blood stream and are spread throughout. I wait 30 minutes, then I feed a chicken quarter and some ground beef. As far as supplements, I give 1 dog multi vitamin and 1 Omega fish oil capsule 3 times a week with food.

Great looking dogs! 2:44 How much foot work did you have to put in? Miles and how many times per week? Can you also tell me how much time it took to walk the distance? Thanks.
@genuineapbt6690
@genuineapbt6690 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and thank you for commenting and asking the question. Not sure if your reference to the 2:44 mark is related to foot work. There I was just referencing that I would do anaerobic work with her to increase definition without dropping weight. I didn’t do a lot of roadwork with her to reach the results in the video. I believe it was just 20 minutes a day fast walking,3 times a week. That was incorporated with other things like spring pole and ball fetch at full sprint. The feed and her genetics played a major role. Thanks again.
@rickl3697

@@genuineapbt6690I’m not sure how the 2:44 got there 😆. I just wanted to know the amount of time it took to walk her also mileage. Thanks for the reply. I have an awesome APBT with great confirmation/genes. I’m trying to get her ready for the next Adba show. She took a second place ribbon for her class at the last show and I could tell the judge had a difficult time making his decision between 1st and 2nd place. I’m going to make sure I give my girl the best chance at taking home the blue by putting in the footwork and changing her diet (temporary) Your videos are a lot of help. Thanks again and God bless you!

@genuineapbt6690
@genuineapbt6690 2 жыл бұрын
I would not condition a dog. While it’s still a pup. Until at least 1-1/2 years old. It’s not physically or mentally mature before that. It’s good for puppies to have some fat. What you can do is keep them active just playing around and being puppies. You can also get them used to the apparatuses that you will use to condition them later. Like treadmill‘s, carpet mill , spring pole and flirt pole or anything else. But this is just to get them familiar with the apparatus. It’s not to do any serious work at all. The name of the game in the dogs is patients. No need to rush anything. I hope this helps.

'Conditioning' is GREAT providing it's done for their health and not to end up fighting, in my opinion if a human wants to fight that's their choice but raising a dog on a heavy chain to MAYBE win a few fights and make the owner lots of $$$$ is sick or liquidating them because they lack the will to fight is shameful. Having said that they both look well toned and very healthy. I actually worked for a guy about 40 years ago who had a Doberman who was chiseled as i used to take him running on the beach, etc.

@genuineapbt6690
@genuineapbt6690 Жыл бұрын
Shelters and dog rehabilitation have very little if anything at all to do with genuine American Pit Bull Terriers. I believe in having and stating a difference of opinion but not at the cost of facts and accurate statements. So if you want to engage in further dialogue, let’s start out with 2 topics. 1. Concisely and accurately state a factual correlation between “dogs at a shelter” “that you rehab”and game bred APBT’s that are registered with the governing municipality as show quality dogs and are dual registered with professional and established BREED SPECIFIC registries. On top of that, our dogs are bred under great planning and scrutiny of Sire & Dam to ensure breed standards, and desired traits. Then sold at a premium by a breeder who has an intense vetting process to assure owner commitment, and proper suitability, not just to a dog but to this breed. 2. How long have you been around dogs? I have been an owner of THIS BREED since 1978. They have been part of my life and my family’s life since then and much before I was born. My father owned them since he was 12 and he was born in 1911. One last thing to consider if you expect a reply, leave your emotions at the door. They don’t matter. They are subjective and only apply to you. Bring FACTS!! I doubt you’ll reply but I’ll leave your comment up anyway so others can see what’s what.
