the KA-BAR is GREAT. It is what it is and it isn't what it isn't. But that doesn't make it less than a great knife. The history of what it came from tells the story on why it is what it truly is.

Every "hard use" video I've seen on The Ka-bar, and my dad's that I may or may not have "borrowed" as a kid, breaks where the tang meets the blade. I still have one that I take out and beat the crap out of on a regular basis. If you know where the weak point is, it's really easy to avoid. To baton, I just don't hold onto the handle after I get it started, and use a wood wedge on the base side of the blade. Has the added benefit of being a wedge, too. As it works pretty dang fantastic for me, and I've literally never seen anybody on YT do it, just wanted to pass the idea on. (I also keep the guard an inch or so away from the wood)

Great observation brother. The one thing that you pointed out that most people miss is understanding the knife that's like a eureka moment if you understand the knife you can use it effectively

Here's how I go about it: First, the appearance of the knife has to interest me. There are a LOT of them :-) Then I check the specs, the handle must be big enough for my large ape-paws. Then I check reviews from real world users; no tabletop sheit or commercial drivel. This is where your channel and, for example, JoeX come into view. These weigh heavy! And then I buy, or I don't. Price and my budget are then just a matter of how long I have to save. And how much patience I can muster ;-) So, thank you VERY much for all the time and energy you put into this, I really appreciate it Brother 👍

This is all truth. Well said. I’ve owned Ka-Bar’s my whole life. I’ve destroyed a couple. I know they aren’t the best but I’ve always gotten along with them. I have an old Case Ka-Bar from WWII that I beat as a kid then retired as an adult. It’s strong and in beautiful shape! The full tang one you have is a beauty and I’m sure it’s good enough to poke an eye out with.. remember, it’s a FIGHTING knife. Not an axe or a pry bar. Looking forward to the video! Hope you have a great weekend!! 👍

That's like the same thing with the Glock field knife. Everytime it pops up on KZfaq there are always the same comments. I get a little emotional with that, I admit that. It's in service since 1978. And they beat on it pretty good, I used it pretty good, there are several units worldwide who use it all the time. And when I kick the bucket, I bet you they still use it. But some ass on KZfaq says it's shit because it has a hollow handle and only full tang is the shit and somebody broke it. But they never had one or used one. That's my rant about that topic 😂

Looking forward to the review, no matter the results. Still a fan of "the" KaBar knife, I own two of them, and it was my first "big" fixed blade my Dad bought for me at a gun show years ago. That and the Buck 450 "Protege" are the knives that got me into knives so long ago. Have a great weekend, Scabber.

This was a fun video, because it is nice to know there is another in this world who has to "work through" experiencing an item without viewing a diatribe of videos and having less interest in the item then before I started. I did that whole seen back in the 2010's with a gear reviewer I will leave Nameless. I find myself viewing the companies website first, finding something that peaks my interest, then I may purchase it. The videos about said item may get watched after I have held the knife, cut with the knife, carried the knife, and so on. Sounds like you are doing something similar, and I can't wait. Thank you.

I never understood why folks feel they should try to change someone's mind. It seems in the age of social media it's worse than the old message boards of the early internet age. I like all of the knives, however I won't buy another benchmade. While Benchmade produce great quality, but they offered to destroy firearms with their equipment. I know a lot of Spyderco fans too and my very first Spyderco the lock broke. I do like Kabar, but I like the Cold Steel Leatherneck better. Keep up the great work and reviews.

Great video, Brother. I love KaBar knives, and I own many. A lot of people from all of our military branches have carried one into combat, that says a lot to me. If a knife has served with us for so long and served us well it has to be a good knife. Just because a design is old and that there are better designs now doesn't mean you can't use the old ones if you wish. Don't let others make your choices for you. Again awesome job, Brother.

To me the biggest truth here is the regurgitated info statement, AMEN BROTHER! So many people throw shade on the Ka-Bar because their "hero" said it was crap and the trolls who leave comments have never even held one in their Cheetos-stained fingers. I have owned and used them extensively and without question, they are limited in their capabilities due to the design. They are not heavy enough to be very effective choppers, they are not strong enough for HEAVY batoning. BUT, they ARE fighting knives that have killed more bad guys than cancer as the saying goes. Many vets who have actually gone hand to hand with one in combat swear by them. The LARP'er commandos who have never left CONUS to go downrange poo poo them because some assclown said it sucked. If you use it the way it was intended, it will never break, as Doug Marcaida says "It will KEEL" and you will survive. If you abuse it it will break, just like almost every other knife ever made. Clint Eastwood once said in a classic movie, "A man's got to know his limitations, " which applies to the Ka-Bar. I would not hesitate to carry one on the two-way shooting range because it will do the job perfectly for what I would ever need it to do. After saying all of that, it is not a survival knife and there are far better options out there like the offerings from WTG, etc. I think the key point is to have the tools you need for the jobs at hand. For utility and combat use the Ka-Bar is just fine.

Knives could be described to cars in a way. I went to a new car show a few years back , getting into and out of all kinds. The one that shocked the shit out of me and never in my life thought, hell I might get one. The Mini Cooper, the car that I thought was to small to burry a rat. I am 6-1 and the basterd fit great . Better than most full size . The K-bar is probably the same way but must consider it is a Clasic. Clasic means to me a older design build ahead of that time . Everybody is different otherwise we as humans would go nuts, or more so . #22aday no more ❤

(Regurgitated Information) You couldn't have said truer words. So many people spit out info they read or see on KZfaq as fact I will be talking to you and telling you stuff I've read doesn't mean it's a fact it's just what I've seen or read. Anyone can put something out on the web. I am sending you knives because I want to know how all these knives I buy stack up and what better way than to turn you loose cutting everything you can find. Do I think a full tang Kabar is overall stronger than a stick tang (Probably) Comonsense tells me that. But that doesn't mean a normal Kabar wouldn't save you A$$ or do everything needed. how many servicemen have their Kabar saved their lives? A lot I would certainly think. Good riding with Scab Peace Brother.

Im happy to see you are continuing to follow your heart and what matters to you. Im excited to see and hear your thoughts in a hard use kabar review. I don't have one yet but i plan to at some point. To all the haters and naysayers out there my thoughts are that if it was good enough to survive with during ww2 and beyond then it's good enough. Are there tougher knives out there duh of course, would i grab it over several other survival knives in my collection if tomorrow we woke up to a zombie apocalypse, no probably not but that doesn't mean that it's a bad knife. But I digress haha. Keep on doing you my brother and don't let the haters and naysayer keyboard warriors steal your joy. Do what you love 👍🏻
