Күн бұрын

2019 is shaping up to be the year of the compact car, and we've got our second all-new entry for the segment, the 2019 Kia Forte EX.
Our full tour & review of the all-new 2019 Kia Forte EX goes over the standard equipment on this compact sedan sold here in Canada, such as the LED headlights, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, backup camera with rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and the exterior design which was designed by Peter Schreyer, the same designer behind the 2018 Kia Stinger.
We also spend some time talking about Kia's second generation Nu engine which uses the Atkinson Cycle technology, along with multi-port injection to increase fuel economy while still producing the same power numbers from the previous generation Forte. We also talk about Kia's new Intelligent Continuous Variable Transmission, known internally as the i-CVT, or an IVT.
We jump inside the 2019 Forte EX to talk about interior features, such as the front heated seats and heated steering wheel, Qi wireless charging, 8" infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, & rear cup holder arm rest with rear air vents.
TestDrive takes the 2019 Forte EX on a road test to talk about the new 2.0L naturally aspirated inline 4 engine and the i-CVT, along with the somewhat controversial rear torsion beam suspension and how it might affect the overall ride and handling of the 2019 Kia Forte. We had some light snow in Québec for filming our driving segment, so we also get to talk about how the Forte handles during the winter and in snow.
We wrap up our time with the 2019 Kia Forte by going over our likes and dislikes about the small car, and talk about what we expect to see in the future in this segment from competition like the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, 2019 Honda Civic, and 2019 Hyundai Elantra.

Great review - thanks much! Now that you drove both, the 2019 Jetta and the Forte, which one you like better? I was inclining towards the 2019 Jetta SEL trim which I could get for about US$22k but after watching your video I wonder if the 2019 Forte EX is a better car for about the same price (the 2020 are out but are about $1.5 or 2k more)

The Jetta has a lot going for it, there's no doubt about it. We ended up doing a Showdown with the 2019 Mazda3 GT and 2019 Kia Forte EX Limited (fully loaded) and really liked the added features on the Kia. Personally I'd take the Kia Forte5 GT, the added engine power boost and DCT should make for an excellent drive, while having a handsome sporty looking car to boot.

Hi PRN. What's your opinion on this: I just bought a 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo and I really wanna drive it hard but only if it won't damage the engine over time. Are these cars built to be revved high all day long provided the engine is warm and you don't hit redline? Or am I only supposed to occasionally floor it when needed, and "granny drive" daily? Thanks.
@PRNTestDrive
@PRNTestDrive 5 жыл бұрын
If any car in Hyundai’s line up is meant to be driven a little harder than normal it should be the Veloster, since it’s their little pocket rocket. Moderation is always key, but you should be able to drive it in a sportier manner without worrying too much. I haven’t heard of any serious complaints from owners who have.

No it's not, check the footage and you'll see there's no button. I debated keeping a longer segment than we ended up using for this final cut. In fact what we filmed and cut included about 75 seconds of me explaining that a review by SavageGeese on the Forte EX (US model) showed a button and that I must have missed it, only for me to show in full depth that this is only available on vehicles sold with the push-start and smart key. So while you are technically correct that the button would be located behind the camera, it's not true for this specific trim sold here in Canada.

I own a 2017 Elantra. They have a 2.0 Atkinson cycle variant of the Nu engine. I would stay away. Mine, and according to many reports the dealer told me they get, is they make a loud ticking/tapping noise when cold. It sounds like a diesel. Dealer reported Hyundai said it was normal because the metal shrinks in cold weather. I have never ever had a car do this in cold weather and I have had my fair share of bombs. I bought it used so am only covered up to 60000 miles. I said to Hyundai ok if this is so normal cover my car to the full 10 year 100000 mile warranty. They just keep giving me the run around. I mean if there is no issue with the car it would not cost them anything to give the full powertrain warranty. I have no confidence in the longevity of this engine and unfortunately it looks like they are putting these in more models like the Kona. Also I think these engines are in the Kia Forte and other Kia models.

J High the 2018 Elantra didn’t have a CVT. Went from the top of my shopping list to the bottom.

@@chocolatewheelchair I'm well aware that the Hyundai Accent and Elantra both offer conventional transmissions. You on the other hand, clearly stated (incorrectly) that Kia and Hyundai both ruined their smaller models by moving to CVT's. Nontheless, my point was that the Civic, Corolla, and Sentra which usually dominate the compact sedan market, all use CVT's.

@@chocolatewheelchair It's true the Elantra doesn't have one either, but it only received a facelift for 2019, I imagine if they replace it with a new generation for 2021 it'll use the same i-CVT found in this Forte.
