Baltic Road Trip To Riga, Via Hill Of Many Many Crosses

I had a man to see in Riga, but I was in Vilnius, Lithuania! What should I do? Call my mate Gabe, the most Baltic man I know, and get him to drive me half the Baltic Way in a clapped out old rust-trap ‘hire car’ to get there. We had a laugh along the way, saw the great landscape of Lithuania and Latvia and the hill of ‘many, many crosses’. After braving the craziest taxi driver in all of Riga, we made it to meet ‪@J.E.E‬ - more to come in the next video…

I stayed in a hotel in Latvia also, and the thing that I remember the most, were than the elevators were very small and could only fit 2 people. 1998. The restaurants were very welcoming.

I went to Lithuania in 1998, but was on business, so had no time for sightseeing. Sad😢 The people were exceptionally nice.

Good Grief one of those Scallop signs popped up again. Can believe there was a 100k crosses on that hill. Looking forward to hearing about your thoughts of the beer and the food later on. Thanks for the video and bon courage for future taxi rides.

My dad came from Latvia and would love to go and see where he came from and try and find some relatives. Unfortunately he died in 1995, so we have no idea of where and who to contact. One day we will fly to Riga and see the country and do further investigations as we cannot even find anyone with his surname

Those "many crosses" are important to Lithuanians. First were raised after Russian Empire executed there our rebels in 19th century uprisings. Russia torn them down. People secretly put crosses back, more crosses,,. Russians torn them down. It lasted until Soviets, they were buldozing crosses at the day time, and people put back crosses threw the night, even more of them... when you Understand the meaning of it, you will look at it different way.
