If it's news station footage that's essentially the same as Disney or Universal. That's why many informative vids on KZfaq, that are on specific events, don't use famous or well-known footage that is owned by companies. Example: the Zapruder film with the JFK assassination, the "UFO" mass sighting footage of lights over a mountain range in Arizona or New Mexico (I forget which), etc. You'll see the footage on the History Channel or Discovery because they pay the rights to use that footage. Typically, yt channels don't because it's expensive so they'll only use stills or different footage that is close enough. Typically the companies that own the footage are very aggressive at citing videos that use their footage.

Fun Fact: Just two* years* prior to the North Hollywood shootout, the movie _Heat_ released. A common criticism of _Heat_ among law enforcement had been that the shootout scene with the armed suspects was "unrealistic" because it was believed that robbers would not be that heavily armed nor willing to fight police head on. The North Holly shootout would prove all that wrong.

The craziest thing about this shootout was the news reporter who was casually reporting from behind a car while the shooters were actually shooting at him. Note, a 7.62x39mm will punch through and out the other side of a car. The only thing that will sufficiently stop the bullet is the engine block. Mans strait up was in the line of fire and didn’t care.

Cars are not safe from gunfire in any way shape or form. Even hiding behind the engine block can cause you to take shrapnel or richochets from the bullet tearing through the body of the vehicle. Jorge Viera initially didnt understand that the person he was filming was one of the robbers, he thought it was a SWAT officer. So it wasnt so much he didnt care, it was that he didnt know, and by the time he knew he was in the line of fire with no way to retreat (plus it made for some exceptional footage).

You're so cocky for a while after you've been in battle that you go toe-to-toe with big huge guys and it's a pleasure because they're not suicide bombers. The bank was in a grocery store and it was boring, so you got to be genuinely useful to all the customers, if you bothered to learn all about the store. It was a great feeling having the necessary information to answer all sorts of questions.

For those who don't know, Emil and Larry's strategy of covering each other to move forward to the parking lot is a tactic taught in the US Army. It's called bounding and it's used to either force the enemy to retreat, or to allow riflemen to get close enough to engage and kill the enemy. So, they were using real life Military infantry tactics against the police.

It's not crazy at all, its called poor journalism. People arent interested in getting the facts correct, they just want to shit out content as quickly as possible to profit off it. Yeah this shootout was caught mostly on camera, but then someone making the documentaries would need to *watch it* and that takes time, time these people dont want to waste in getting correct information, they just wanna vomit their content into the world and let the money roll in. I hope it's not rude to have laughed at that... But I did. She had to be hard as fuck to keep working there. Realistically though, that's the best way to rob someone and things would be much better if we just had more polite armed robbers. Jokes aside, it's a very effective strategy, hell it's humane in a way. Killing someone that you're robbing makes no sense; you're just adding a murder charge. D.B. Cooper was described as extremely kind. When asked by his hostage "why?" he told her "It's not that I have a grudge against you or your airline. I just have a grudge." According to her, he kept reassuring her that everything was going to be okay, despite the *bomb* on him. I think that's a large contribution as to why he was the only successful hijacker. He even told the crew (who he had lock themselves in the cockpit) "Have a good day" before he jumped out. He was so polite that he *got the plane grounded and evacuated without them knowing about the hijack. (Edit: While you might assume Stockholm Syndrome, there wasn't enough time, she didn't help him, she was still a *hostage*.) It's fascinating when you think about it, someone can be doing an awful crime while still acting like good people. Maybe being a good person and committing awful crimes aren't mutually exclusive...

A couple years later the FBI gave her a 'im sorry' letter from that guy while he was in prison. Turns out he was a drug addict, and he got help.

Great video commentary was hilarious. As someone who watched this whole thing go on live with my mom and her boyfriend back then at the age of 15 i remember it like yesterday and think you did a great job covering it especially correcting the documentaries. When I watch those and say that didn't happen people think I'm crazy and how would I know better than the people who made the documentary. So a big thank you for that

This is legitimately the best break down of the shootout I've ever seen. Your a gun guy and know basic tatics and movements which shows. The common sense approach to why they did certain things and issues with their weapons has always been glossed over besides they were illegally converted. Please do a video on Waco, ruby ridge too but the algorithm might be an issue with it.

The thing about phenobarbital is that you're not going to feel "intoxicated" in the way that a lot of the other sources might have imagined. You're just going to feel exceedingly calm (bordering on lethargic if you don't have enough stimuli to occupy your senses), and you're also not going to exhibit what you might call reasonable risk-aversion. Basically even with their plan falling apart and finding themselves surrounded, they probably met their end with something akin to indifference. Like a lot of anti-seizure meds, phenobarbital was also widely used to treat people with panic attacks and PTSD.

The bank robber was lucky in the sense that: he’s drum mag even fed, back then they were notoriously horribly at jamming, and that his dissipator AR-15 was able to shoot properly. The dissipator is the most unreliable version of a 16” barrel because the gas port can’t get enough gas down it to function 99% of the time. Bro literally picked the WORST rifle with the WORST possible mag choice and lucked the hell out with almost zero malfunctions. His luck was so good he should’ve just gone and played the lottery, won, and avoid the shootout.

@@austinknowlton1783 yeah but then he cut the barrel from 20” to 16” which is what causes the issue. He responded that that could never happen in real life! Anyway, about 1 year later this shoot-out occurred, and yes I rubbed it in his face all day and told everyone what he had said too.

This happened down the street from us and was the bank my grandma used. Bank robberies really were so common that even after this, she was annoyed at not being able to go that day. I remember being too young to understand why the bank suddenly had tons of bulletproof glass installed inside, and still to this day is decked out more than a lot of other banks in the area.

I'm from Northern California and I remember driving into Southern California the day this happeed. As we were driving down the highway, we saw multiple helicopters overlooking the scene. We had no idea what was happening and only learned about it later. ("The Ventures" at the House of Blues were GREAT! 🎸)

Just found your channel a couple weeks ago. I think i had heard of you before though. I think from a couple creepypastas that you may have written and/or did voice work in. Which is kinda cool to put a face to the name. Not sure if you are the same wendigoon or not? Lol i do remember it being one of my favorite creepypastas that id heard. Anyways. Good work on this story. As well on the yuba 5. Which is the 1st vid i saw on your channel. Will definitely be checking out the rest of your content!

Please do more content like this, I've never been one for "True Crime" genre stuff but your covering of shootouts is so engaging and straight to the point, that I too think this is absolutely my favourite niche as well. As someone who's also a nerd about guns, I'd love to see more content about guns too from you. I don't know what type of content you could do, but I'm absolutely here for it!!!

i think the risk is adding to the glamorisation of it, and it going the way of mass shootings, where it increases due to desire for infamy and notoriety. so, one has to be very careful with how they go about it. this one works because no one died, the shooters are dead, no money got stolen, and it is now virtually impossible to do what they did due to introduced methods of policing and robbery prevention (as well as identification methods).
