The scenic Wensleydale Railway had their ex Tyne & Wear WL4 locomotive, one of 5 built, hauling a passenger train for the first time. Powered by a Rolls Royce V8 engine these diesel electrics were capable of 50kph a little over 30mph and sound very powerful. They were used to haul maintenance trains and could haul failed T&W units. After working there they were sold and used during the construction of the channel tunnel. A highlight of the day for me after seeing them on the Metro system years ago. My train back from Leyburn 25:00 was hauled by a class 14 diesel hydraulic built 10 years before the WL4 and a type of locomotive that saw more time in industrial use than main line use. I stayed on this train as it was one of the few days they run to the other end of their line at Scruton, the line does continue from there to connect with the main line at Northallerton but not for public use. Back at Leeming Bar 51:00 we had a look round the model railway exhibits and Millennium Models of Morley's trade stand. A shop well worth a visit if you are in that area. I did not get haulage by the class 33 this time but was able to see it running round the train, hopefully I will get to do that another day, having now been to the railway for the first time I found it a place well worth another visit.
