Basic physics: if you multiply the rotation speed 4 times the torque decreases 4 times no matter the mechanism. Actually more than 4 times, give the friction.

Good day, this guy has been my daily for quite a while now. I work as an electrician and this is my most essential tool. The bigger handle feels nice in the hand and makes it fatigue slower and about the torque problem - the first 2 spins you gotta do non turbo then swich to it for loosening and the other way around for fastening. I also have the feeling that i can apply more torque after its been used for a while. Even if you need more torque its one button push away. In my opinion its an great tool, but i wish it felt more sturdy when it comes to tightening screws, i would even sacrifice the 4 to 1 ratio and lower it to 2 to 1 to get more power out of it.

Used the wera interchangeable drivers for years. The torque driver is awesome, the blades are great. All I want is a powered handle and Wera make this 4x1 speed handle. I invested, its not cheap, and it turned out pretty terrible!!! Shame really, but it sucks. I've moved onto Vessel now for my powered driver!!

Any recommendations for geared screwdrivers that are not VDE rated?
@Hub593
@Hub593 9 ай бұрын
Interesting... but if I'm being honest, it seems kinda outclassed. Design wise, a standard Yankee screwdriver is smaller, faster, and has the ability to ratchet for high torque applications. At this price point, you can likely also find a Yankee with nearly equal play in the shaft and the ability to holding bits (Not that I like bit holding screwdrivers). I suppose this model of the Turbo is insulated, while I can't think of an insulated Yankee -- but I wouldn't be surprised if somebody made one.

i definitely assumed it was for long device screws and not torquing down fasteners. i think everyone already knew that. also, wondering about the torque rating sounds like a fundamental misunderstanding

The button is kind of quirky on the one I have which is not the electrical one. And it's only on extreme low torque situations like light switch covers things like that if you need to loosen it you have to do it regular and then you can put it in turbo and get it the rest of the out. Or you could just keep in regular mode and probably have it out half the time. I do like all the tips that came with it spot on with their fit. And they're not little short things that you can't get into a deep cut out

Seems to come across as a tool searching for a problem rather than it being a solution. I can understand a 4:1 ratio in 4 handle turns to one driver turn for helping to unscrew super tight terminals but the two hands thing is stupid. I’d have to grow a third arm if I’m going to be holding cables in position whilst trying to use the “turbo mode” to tighten terminals. Also how do you find the Voltex gear? I’ve heard a lot of good things and am thinking about making the switch from nhp.
@AddictedtoTools
@AddictedtoTools Жыл бұрын
That’s a good idea for those tight screws! I definitely couldn’t see this being used for much of the work we would do. I’ve only just received the voltex gear for my switchboard upgrade. I can’t say much about the gear personally yet. I’ll be sharing the upgrade and how the equipment goes. I have heard good things from most though. I’ve done a few polls on Instagram. Majority was great feedback, especially with warranty and customer service.

Yeah I agree. Was pretty disappointed. The play in it when it’s in stiff mode is no good and it struggles to put in machine screws that are that aren’t perfectly smooth. Now it’s just a house screw driver kit. And super expensive. Although I’m thankful I didn’t buy the insulated ones.

Why go turbo manual when you can go electric. I love the vessel screwdriver but wanted something better. so I purchased the vessel electric screwdriver from Japan . Absolutely brilliant, small powerful, well built, 3 speeds, ergonomic etc.
@maxmerton
@maxmerton Жыл бұрын
I would expect the torque available in turbo mode to be 1/4 of that available in direct mode. No design in the world can overcome that basic principle. Intuitively, I would never use Turbo mode in either direction for a tight screw - it's just for getting the lightly-loading work done more quickly.

Can't fix the torque drawback, it's just Physics. I use it to (un)fasten +-30 terminal screws of HV protection relays. Need to unturbo it if you need torque. For some reason those relay terminals have flathead screws... you showed precisely what happens when you use turbo on those. It sucks. It's alright for repetitive work, but nowadays I just a Bosch Go when I can get away with it. Another advantage of that set is that you have two handles and can use two bits at the same time instead of switching them out.
@paulphillips2941

I won an uninsulated one when they first came out and ive got to say it was a total let down. Handle felt too big, tightened up a few screws and now the mechanism gets stuck when trying to change it and its a pain in the arse having to change it from running a screw in fast to nipping a screw up constantly. I agree you can't get the torque on it whilst having to use two hands on the screwdriver. Good idea in theory but poor idea in concept and execution from wera. They say it saves so much time but it really doesnt, i find it quicker to just use a normal screwdriver. Better off spending the money on an electric screwdriver if its the speed you need.

@@AddictedtoTools I’ve been using the Bosch go for about 4 months. Once you use it for a week straight and it becomes muscle memory there is no going back. You figure out different torque settings for different applications gpos fan sockets etc. Have been using makita CXT impact for years but the Bosch GO fits in the tool belt better. I think the WERA TURBO is made for applications in Europe. Maybe they have machined screws in their power points and light switches.

There’s no way to “fix the torque” issue. That would need violation of the laws of physics. The gears give 4 times the speed, which MUST give 1/4 the power/torque, (slightly less, from friction). The power you put into 1 turn of the handle is split between the 4 turns of the screw. I think it’s a cool product, and like that they make such things, but I don’t feel I need it.

Switching between modes often bogs down, which slows me down. Unacceptable, Wera. The gear is rough. Also, the torque is soo low, that it struggles to tighten even quite easy fastening conditions. You can actually get more torque and a similar speed by just twisting the screwdriver with your thumb and forefinger in front of the handle. Big fat fail.

Yea you aren't supposed to drive screws all the way with turbo, just get them in as far as they can go then torque it down like you with a normal screw driver. It's not an impact you aren't going to blast big ass screws into wood with it in turbo

Pretty sure it's 4:1 so you just divide whatever force you are applying by 4, and that's how much force is being put into the screw, or coming from the spinning shaft end. You can get a similar effect by just spinning the shaft and not the handle lol... You don't even need the fancy button and gears. Just a normal old screwdriver.
