To be fair, Far Cry stories usually have genuinely vile hardcore extremists on both sides. That's a perfectly reasonable place to make a call for compromise(or murder). Not at all the same thing as calling for compromise between "I want to exist and have equal rights to Cishet white dudes" and "you're a murderous pedo rapist, you literally created AIDS, and should be strung up from lamp posts". Ubisoft does both, but can't much be faulted on the first.

I think this is the fairest assessment that can be made about the movie. I liked it just fine. I felt there were shortcomings and such (a lot of it felt budget related), but I was absolutely entertained by Sam Richardson and Milana Vayntrub. That said, I didn't know anything about the game and was in the dark about some of the Ubisoft shit before seeing it.

Yeah, I know i'm not neutral on this, because my brother works in a studio owned by ubisoft, and from his point of view, while what's happened if monstrous and the coverup is inexcusable, Ubisoft seems to have taken real steps to protect employees and prevent future abuse, and appears to be among the better studios in terms of general work culture - which doesn't reflect well for the videogame industry in general, since a studio can be considered among the best for merely not having a general bro culture of systematic harassment, and only having some instances of sexual assault... Anyways, just because instances of sexual misconduct within Hollywood studios aren't as public, or because they don't stick quite as much on the companies involved (weinstein had Miramax, which was a Disney subsidiary for years) doesn't mean any studio is clean. Which means potentially none in corporate media can address sexual harassment with a fully clean record. i don't blame Mil-dread for taking digs at ubisoft because, well we need to keep pressure on all game studios to improve the way they treat their employees in general and adress sexual misconduct in particular, but by this token no adaptation of any game or media can mention sexual harassment without a hint of hypocrisy.

I mean, the game it's based on IS a social deduction game that basically ends once the werewolf is found, so it's true to the source material at least?

Still you can look at something that does this same concept well in a non-interactive medium, like the Twilight Zone episode The Monsters are Due on Maple Street, and see that the difference between the two is having a point and not being too cowardly to pursue that point. Nothing wrong with a paranoia thriller where the REAL monster is a lack of solidarity and understanding, but like Mildred discusses here it's probably best to draw lines at where solidarity can and can't be found and where the perception of aggression isn't unfounded paranoia.
