Originally shown on Saturday mornings in 1975. 'Model World' was a series of ten programs featuring all forms of modelling from trains, planes, boats, cars to military figures etc.'Model World' the complete series is now available on DVD from Spruce Studios. (www.sprucestudios.com).
For those of us of a certain age, The 'Model World' series hosted by Bob Symes, introduced us to the fantastic world of models, and for me personally, model railways. These programs presented by childhood hero Bob Symes (who id like to meet someday) remain as good and inspiring today, as all them years ago as a child.
I hope you enjoy 'Model World' as much as I still do.
Enjoy.

Another childhood personality sadly leaves us. He had a perfect soft but authoratitive voice which made him prefect for us lads. R.I.P. Baron Schutzmann von Schutzmansdorff

Amazing to watch this again and see how the hobby has advanced since it was presented those days in the 1970s.

So has modelling at 12 inches to the foot -- since that film was made, the buildings and canopy on the empty platform at Horsted Keynes have been reconstructed.

A great series, my dad met Bob a couple of times - sadly I never did - a lovely man, a skilled and honourable fellow in the truest sense. I had to chuckle over one comment (different times of course) ".....what have we got there, it looks wet and dirty....." LOL! Apologies .

Interesting fact: the N gauge layout featured here (Known as Bury Hill) was later featured in the 1979 edition of the Model Railway Constructor Annual

I remember watching this as a kid back in the early 80's (I'm 30 this Friday!). The opening music 'Trains and Boats and Planes' was actually recorded by The Shadows and is off their Jigsaw album from 1967.

This is a good video I like Bob's approach to this subject he is rather good and not boring to listen too. I have 1 other video "A lineside look at model railways" which I should down load onto youtube which Bob presents which is very imformative. But thank you for putting this on it was a pleasure to watch.

So corny by todays standards but delightful. Wow where have those 40 years gone. Must admit when I look back at iconic layouts of that era one of the best was Bob Dyers Borchester Market. It seemed to be a bench mark layout , a standarfd to attain, where everything was to the same standard and everything ran well.

I wonder what Bob symes would make of models of today both 00 and N'Gauges as models have come a very long way since 1975 we now have card models courtesy of Metcalfe the Minitrix type 2 still pops up at swapmeets although a noisy model it is a very robust model but has now been replaced by the Dapol model which is also DCC ready the models today are very well detailed some coaches you can put a lighting unit in them the Farish multiple units you can put sound in them as they have a speaker housing fitted as standard locomotives have wire handrails and cab detail

BY JOVE!!! jolly good that is!!! hear hear old boy quite a good model railway you have there!! Oh and the train must have been nailed or glue DIRECTLY to the board as the noise is WAY too much for a N scale train. So glad we have cork now!
