My grandpa lived in Billings Park, and we spent a bunch of time around that thing. I would offtimes ride my bike across that thing. What an adventure!

I was born in 1977 so I was very young when this bridge was still up. However I remember being slightly unnerved even at that age going over it. 😆👍 So awesome that you uploaded this. Thank you!

Same here! But it was always an adventure and it never did collapse. That was scary in the winter, especially the sharp curve on the Superior side! That old bridge always made a bunch of awful noises as I recall. . . But I was probably 6 or 7 when it was torn down. :-)

I made that drive many times in the late sixties and early seventies. Slippery when wet! That sharp curve on the Superior side always had fresh boards on the guard rail from people running into it. Nice to see old downtown West Duluth. I went to the movie theater there, saw "Butch Cassidy" and "Catch 22."

Very cool to see again. I remember how much it creaked and groaned, especially in the winter.

MAN does this video bring back memories! That's when the mines were in full operation, life was different back then. Used to live in superior, and cross the bridge going to the 148th ANG on top of the hill. The cars were mostly running with the use of carburetor and few computers. I miss the 80s!

Yes, I remember traveling over this bridge as a youngster. I also remember partying at the dead end of that road after they closed it.

Sure is fun to watch this now in 2020. So much has changed in west Duluth since 1984. I sure miss how the old west Duluth was. Thank you for sharing Roger! :)

Thank you. for this. Used to ride our bike over to Billings Park from West Duluth to go swimming. Even then I was leery of the water in the St. Louis River!

Same here.. except I did all my fishing in the late 50s and early 60s. In all the hours I fished on the Superior side, I never saw that much traffic.

I was 12 in '84. My mom would drop me and cousin off in the morning on her way to work and pick us up after.

I was 14 (in 1959) when I first started fishing there. I'd either walk or ride my bike from 27th & Oakes, about 2-1/2 miles.

A rickety old wooden bridge that always felt like it was about to collapse. My family would ride tat bridge into Superior to visit the Mariner Mall. Yes, the Bong Bridge was 1000x better. I completely forgot about the train bridge in West Duluth (next to Twin Ports Amusements, McDonald's and the park).

I remember how slippery it got for my motorcycle when it was wet.

I can see why it was replaced by the Bong Bridge. Was 6 years old in 1984. I only remember my folks talking about the Arrowhead Bridge.

At about the 8:19 mark I think the US Steel boats that were laid up at the MP&L Dock in West Duluth were briefly visible.

That bridge was a bit spotty, but it had nothing on the Oliver bridge. I remember my parents using it all the time. When was it taken down, can't have been much past 1984
