Another video, another dresser saved from the dump! This beautiful Mid Century Modern Style dresser had already been painted in some nasty latex paint that was peeling badly. I used a paint stripper to clean it all up and repainted with a custom Country Chic Paint colour. Now its clean and fresh and giving off some serious West Elm, CB2, Anthropologie vibes!

Kind of sickening to think how close she came to being in the dump when there was nothing really wrong with her. Really nice makeover, Katie!

Hi, Katie! I, too, have never met a stripper I really liked; however, my experience has been that when you must, CitriStrip works as well as any I've tried--and I put it on lots thicker than you do. (Messy, messy, messy process!) I LOVE the lines of this piece. I also love that I ALWAYS learn something new and interesting from you: the legs and hardware are perfect. I would never in a million years have thought of the multi-color thing you did and it looks so high-end. That hardware alone made this piece worth rescuing! I've refinished stuff for more than 50 years, but you really have such a flair for creative ideas that you inspire me to try new things. So glad I found you.

Yes! Citrus stripper is where it's at! I redid a gorgeous retro dresser with three layers of latex paint...glooped on the stripper, covered with plastic and left it about it's business overnight and all that paint fell right off!

Also, with citristrip, I cover the piece with plastic wrap. This helps keep it from drying out. In my experience, this seems to help a great deal. Granted, I've only been using it for a couple months now so keep that in mind.

The best tip I ever got for using stripper is to apply the stripper and then cover with wax paper until you’re ready to scrape. The stripper will quit working when it dries out. The wax paper keeps it wet and works like a charm. You did a great job.

I just stripped off the latex paint from my kitchen cabinets and one thing is that the product layer has to be thick. It comes out easier, then you remove as much as you can, clean it off with paper towel. If you need to apply the stripper a second time around. Let the wood dry off overnight and then sand it. Brand new!
