It was such a joy to see this scene in the cinema: Moreno’s performance had the audience in the palm of her hand, funny and shades of tragedy from one line to the next. I loved the movie.

Loved this remake! This scene was so sweet- Ansel was amazing as Tony and Rita Moreno was perfect as always. Everyone was cast so well!

I adored Ansel as Tony, I thought what he did was just right, and he made me cry during "Something's Coming" and "Maria" and I've never cried during those songs in any other version of WSS including the original movie

I was so nervous when I heard WSS was being remade, as it's one of my top 5 favorite musicals. And the older film is such a classic. But seeing this Tony, and hearing Maria sing "Tonight"...Literally felt goosebumps. Can't wait to see it now

The original was the FAKEST movie musical of all time. ALL the principal actors were DUBBED. Not one was an authentic singer. So how great a "musical" could that be?

@@mylesgarcia4625 I did not know that. I only recently found out that Marni Nixon's son was the wonderful musician singer-songwriter, Andrew Gold (solo artist, Bryndle, Linda Ronstadt's band). I bet you knew that! Hoping this film inspires young people to do a deep dive into the original and other greats of yesteryear like Ms. Moreno...who is still very much a contributing member to the present!

Oh yes, EVERY time!! Ansel has a STUNNING Singing Voice and a very sexy, Soothing talking Voice!; (which some people unfortunately see as boring)! Sorry, but that makes NO sense to me! He talks, or Sings and frankly, I melt, myself! LOL!

I just watched the last showing of this movie at the show today! What a knockout! It's better than the original which I saw when I was fourteen, and quite frankly didn't like! I never wanted to see it again! This one, I can't wait to see again! It's stunning! Breathtaking! Dazzling! Definitely one I want to keep for good!💕 🌈✨🕊️

Trust me, I bawled my eyes out the very 1st time I saw this FANTASTIC, new, Steven Spielberg Directed, 2021 Movie! Being a HUGE Ansel fan (and hate to say it, but even KNOWING the ending), it NEVER gets easier, EITHER!! The ending is VERY tough and with being a new, slightly more updated Version, I had high hopes that maybe, somehow the ending would be changed and not be SO devastating, as well!; but unfortunately from the HEARTBREAKING Rumble to the full aftermath of that and on up until the very end of this BRILLIANT 2021 Movie, it is GUTWRENCHING, sob worthy and DEVASTATINGLY all too real! Be prepared and bring/have LOTS of tissues when you see this Cinematic MASTERPIECE!!

Grew up watching the 1961 WSS as it was one of my dad's favorite movies, so when the new version was announced, I knew Spielberg would HAVE to do an amazing job to hold a candle to the old WSS. Needless to say, when I watched the new version, I was not disappointed at all. If you like or don't like the 1961 WSS, I definitely recommend this

Hinkson7 That's QUITE a compliment! I've never seen the Original 1957 Stage Play, I wasn't even BORN yet! LOL!; but from everything I've heard, Larry Kert was the best Tony EVER, (except for maybe now, Ansel)!! If you mean Jim Bryant, who sung for Richard Beymer, as Tony, in the 1961 Movie Version, I hear definite similarities there between the 2 different Tony's, as well! Personally, Ansel's Voice is my ABSOLUTE favorite between all THREE of them and in my humble opinion, he has one of the best, most unique Voices, if NOT the most unique, (in the BEST possible way)!; that I've EVER heard, in Musicals, or otherwise!!

I didn't really see the chemistry between the actors in this version compared to the electricity btwn the original actors. But I thought Ansel did a great job singing and Rachel absolutely killed it! Her vulnerability, girlish puppy eyes, fire power and beautiful voice really took over. Way better than Natalie wood.

@@kathrynjun2745 she was doing her absolute most and she killed it but he was just giving her...nothing. flat, brooding, facial expressions. No boyish twinkle in his eyes or energetic charm. No glow of love. It's like he was trying to be sexy. He got better towards the end. I just wish they chose a young, hungry actor.

TERRIFIC observation!! That's EXACTLY what Steven Spielberg was going for in Casting Ansel!; (even BEFORE Spielberg knew HOW INCREDIBLE Ansel's Singing and Dancing was)! Spielberg was already quite familiar with Ansel's ACTING, through watching him in "Baby Driver", etc.!

I feel this is not so much a remakel but a completion of the movie the gangs in the Original were so one dimesional here we Finnally see a real story now all the pieces finally seem to fall together i feel this update by Speilberg is one of his best movies ever and new commer Rachael Ziegler was great at singing and acting as Maris and all the actor's sang with there own singing voice a Grade A movie all the way !!

You haven't seen many musicals, clearly. (and Anita shows many more shades than the part of Tony, which is written rather bland. though in this new version he is 'given' some back story, which is unnecessary, but helps to make him more dimensional.

Tony is based on Romeo who is not much older than a 13 year old Juliet. Of course he's limited! Ansel, because of his own limitations, falls short where it counts. He's not bad but so outclassed by the serious talent that surround him.

What you see as TERRIBLY dull and boring, is understated, subtle Acting! Ansel is what you call "a fly under the Radar" Actor! He prefers to hold back and let OTHER Actors take the Spotlight and shine! He's even said that in Interviews! So, what you see as NO charisma, is actually UNDERSTATED, SUBTLE Acting! I personally HATE people who OVERACT!!

Don't watch it if you don't like it. This isn't about hating on the original (which was amazing), it's about retelling the story in a new light.
