I've lived in Japan for 20 years, so I have no idea what's on TV in America anymore, but some clips recently showed up in my newsfeed and I started watching and I was SO impressed with the writing. I thought: This reminds me of the writing on The West Wing! So I looked it up and sure enough: same folks.

Sorkin loves scenes when people speak truth to power. He did so many times in WW even made a whole movie out of it with American President. In this case that why even though Tribbey has a commanding prescence. She doesnt back down about the pinafore thing as tribial as it may be.

I love how she quietly puts Tribbey on the defensive. This was a brilliant character and I was saddened to see her written out. I know it had something to do with her getting another role elsewhere, but it was still sad to see her leave.

A few years ago a friend at work called me in to ask for help with something and I had to look at her and ask, "Are you going to be speaking in iambic pentameter the rest of the day?" I watched her bob her head as she must have been repeating what she'd just said in her head followed by a long, "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck." I responded, "I guess not then." And did a military turn to walk out of her office. Still mock her about that.

Kudos to the script staff, and to whoever signs off on what they produce, for the Gilbert and Sullivan references, knowing full well that no more than 3% of Americans would know who G&S were, and 0.3% could differentiate between Penzance and Pinafore.

@grumpytosnowwhite It's funny, if you look at the first episode with Oliver Platt as Babbish (Bad Moon Rising), you can kinda hear that the dialogue was written for Larroquette. I guess they couldn't get him back for those episodes, but the written lines in Platt's first episode definitely sound more like they were meant for Tribbey, right down to the cricket bat smashing the Dictaphone (changed to a gavel for Babbish).

I think I've said this in other WW video comment areas but I'll say it here as well. If I could watch every episode EVER over the course of 1-3 months and type onto individual sheets of paper EVERY statement that ANYONE makes that gets me thinking about how insightful or argumentative that statement is in MY HEAD I could fill 200 pages or more from top to bottom. Hell, I could fill 5 pages alone with any 1 of 10 different episodes.

unterbm, Yes it is worth it. There are numerous facts that are presented in many episodes of this series that have nothing to do with US politics but they do have something to do with the human condition all over the world. Funny one liners, tragic events that were made up just for the show, arguments about social interactions all over the world, and even a few love stories. If you can find the whole series on DVD anywhere start with season 1 and work your way through to season 7 when these people are finished with their second term. If you can only find individual seasons start with season 1 and then collect the others in numerical order as you can find them.
