Other than rebuilding yourself a very nice truck, you have also helped out the rebuilding community *a ton* by doing this series because people can see how to disassemble this new truck that nobody else has documented a disassembly of. Im not rebuilding one of these, but i'm sure its extremely helpful for those who are.

If it were me, I'd pull the door and the fender and jam the inside of them before painting.. Actually, it'd probably be easier to paint 'em both completely and then re-hang them. Less dirt and you won't have to bag the cab. Jus' sayin. Enjoying the videos none the less.

Got a 1995 4 runner about a month ago for 1500$ and totally changed its life, got it deep down in ghetto La from a woman who had no idea what she had but the 1st and 2cnd gear was Bogging out but she runs like butter now. its a new truck you dont need to blend the colour. Just take a few good size pieces of paint chip ( a slightly larger than a quarter size)from the wrecked part and they will scan it and match it perfectly and you wont be able to tell the difference. You also need to prime both the black and the white parts first. Since its a lighter red you will want to prime it in a light grey . A darker red would take a battleship grey. With the primer you use less paint , you can rub a high build primer to an even finish ready for paint and the colour will be even on both new pieces. Keep up the good work Nuff respec from Jamaica

I have a 'Cougar' Dodge Cummins...1997 3/4 ton with a 5 speed. It was a top end pickup when I bought it and even today after all these years I still love the way it sounds and drives.

Get the same colour primer as the factory use. That will help colour matching too.

Been watching since day one. Love the videos. *Im no expert.* Only thing I can say is the fender is covered in what's called "e-coating". Its only on there so it's not rusting as bare metal in the warehouse. It needs sanded off and the fender primed. Spraying over that, even if scuffed up by scotchbrite pads would still eventually lead to the top coat peeling. Spraying over the black would also make the red base coat on it darker. Just trying to prevent a major headache on your part Westen👍

Looking good. Just for future reference, unbolt the door latch and unclip the window and that inner door panel will slide right out. Saves a lot of extra disassembly.

As an FYI, electrical connectors can be disassembled by popping the pins out using a tool. If your lucky the pin types are the same and you can just swap connectors. Or even better swap the hardware from the other door so the GEM does not see 'different' parts.

Love the channel guys! here is a tip my grandma taught me. Use weed wacker string under the edge of rubber moldings and weatherstrip so that it will lift the rubber and you wont get a paint line. Also you have to put a base color down first to cover the different colors, white door and black fender will look different when you spray red or any finish color over it. The door will look like a bright red and the fender will look dark red, but if you prime both they will look identical. I hope Grandmas tips help

The trick to matching new paint to old is to cut the old paint first. No need for over spraying then.

*you need to take the door and fender off of the truck and scuff up the inside too take all the window trim off too and cover up the internals and paint it inside and out otherwise you'll see all that white every time you open the door or remove the door card. to work on the thing. might as well do it right if you're going to do it at all*
