Western assets in Russia: Kremlin threatens fiscal retaliation

Russia's RIA state news agency says the West stands to lose assets worth at least 288 billion dollars, if frozen Russian assets are confiscated.
After Moscow invaded Ukraine, the US and its allies blocked around 300 billion dollars’ worth of assets.
Now some western powers have floated the idea of using confiscated holdings to rebuild Ukraine once the war has finally ended.
But Russia reaffirmed on Sunday that counter-measures could follow what it calls "western thievery".
According to the RIA, the top investors in the Russian economy include Cyprus, with more than 98 billion dollars, the Netherlands with 50 billion and the UK with nearly 19 billion.
It also reports that Germany has 17 billion dollars invested, France 16 billion dollars and Italy almost 13 billion.

That sounds good, but Europe isn't a unitary entity like the U.S. There are too many conflicting interests to make it a viable alternative. You have countries like Poland and Estonia that want nothing to do with Russia and will align themselves with any competing power that will fight Russia head-on. Then, you have traditional leaders like France and Germany who are willing to have a reset. Understanding Russian Hydrocarbons is what made their economic model of having Germnay as the powerhouse to motor the EU engine viable.

Some of the car factories Russian government have already sold to the Chinese - and they are already producing their Haval and Cherry for the Russian and Belarusian markets : ) Also, all Western resource companies, such as BP and Shell, owned part of the stakes in Gazprom and Rosneft. This alone, hundreds of billions of dollars - and it can be confiscated at any time.

Stealing Russian assets harms the U.S. alot more as the rest of the world is watching what they're doing to Russia and will now stop investing in the dollor through fear of theirs being stolen, this will inevitably cause the dollor to collaps. Actually there is estimated $40 bln of foreign assets in Russia being bought out by local businesses from hostile foreign owners until now. The government comission which approves such deals usually uses the formula: 50% price discount for local buyer and 10% of the deal as a special tax directly to state budget. But in some cases the state just takes the asset under control, like Sakhalin-2 in 2022 or Ariston just recently. Our president does not like to show off loudly, like western leaders, but the real work has been in progress since day 1.
