They can do a general goal card deck and what you can do is take a combination of goal cards at the beginning of the game... either 3 of your character goals or 2 character goals and 1 general goal or 2 general goal and 1 character goal... but to keep to the theme, you must always have at least 1 character goal card so you can't do 3 general goals... that'll fix the goal problem AND still have a thematic goal that suits the character.

Pick up and deliver? Open-world sandbox with no clear cut decision paths? Heavy on player interaction, including aggression? ...Sounds like a Rahdo classic!

like i said, it wasn't for us. i mostly tried it out because i love the subject matter and the approach, and i really wanted to check out how the automa system worked for smaller player count

I interpreted the thematic tie of the whiskey different, i assumed that if you end a turn next to another player, you are drunk from already drinking it to heal, so you get in a fight and smack them with the bottle, ala every bar fight in a western.

Watched the runtrhough while cooking. I don't remember the thieving, where was that at? The MIB not arresting is definitely a concern for me, since the whole idea of being an outlaw is the the fast accumulation of points drawing attention to you from the rest of the table. We almost exclusively play 2P, and I'm not a fan of "dummy players". They usually don't appeal to me, as they can randomly harm/block one player more than the other. So you can be behind, and the dummy player randomly effect you, where a real player would "attack" the leader.

This has been on my radar for quite some time but unfortunately most my gaming is either solo or two player. I've been following the development of this game and the release of the expansions and it certainly looks as though the expansions have dramatically improved the game. Unfortunately the Ante Up expansion, despite looking exceptional, appears to further reduce the viability of 2 players and arguably even 3 players. Thank you for this final thoughts video, it is still one I would be interested in and a lot of what you have said makes me want it all the more but the sticking point is the numbers aspect.

Looks fun, but not telling shipping costs up front kills the KS for me. Okay, and I'd prefer a german version, but that may come sometime in the future. Rahdo, do you think a two player variant where each player takes over two characters that may not attack each other could be viable? Maybe some rule about who gets the second character to X points wins would be needed in order not to feed one character in some way.

I agree with you Rahdo. You sum up my points why I am still not backing this game on KS. Unless, they make the MIB stronger and added goal cards, I am not backing this game.

they've done some significant additions to the MIB since the prototype i've got. he now starts out more powerful than the players (so you're afraid of him in the early game) and as the game goes on, as you get more powerful, you sort of catch up with him. afaik, they're leaving the bonus goal cards as they are, because they're only a variant in the first place. they're really not needed with higher player counts, becuase the players themselves create so many goals for each other...

I can't believe all of the negativity from people(not you Richard) about this game. It looks amazing! I wish I had the $75 to back it. I would in a heartbeat. This and Rajas of the Ganges are my big wants for 2018 so far. I can't wait to get them!

As you could probably tell by one of my above comments, I own Spurs, and I love it. Western Legends actually borrows quite a bit - no, scratch that - a LOT from Spurs. But WL implements a lot of Spurs' elements in a different way, and then adds to. So I'd say that WL could probably end up being the better game. However, if you want that experience now, Spurs is available today and I saw it on Cardhaus for less than $30. Plus Western Legends can't hold a candle to the way Spurs does gun shooting and duels. The bullet draw mechanic used in Spurs is incredibly fun! Plus I like the cattle round-up and horse breaking mini games that come in Spurs. Also, when digging for gold in Spurs, there is no rolling dice. Instead you actually draw nuggets out of a bag, which is filled with black ore nuggets or gold nuggets. And the gold nuggets don't return to the bag after being drawn, so as the game goes on, the supply o f gold "in the mountains" dwindles. Spurs also has a wanted "track", though the effects of being wanted aren't modeled on a track. Hope this helps.

It sounds like it may suffer the same issue as Merchants and Marauders does in that, Yes you can just be a law abiding trader...but it’s far more profitable in points and money to turn Pirate/Outlaw (and more fun too).

i don't think it's an issue here. an outlaw doing well gets hunted down very quickly, and a non-outlaw gets to partake in just an much combat as an outlaw if they like (since there's so many bandits around)

Ramalingam Raghavan I was pleasantly surprised with the shipping price to au, $19USD seemed very fair compared to many other games I have backed. Heck, off the top of my head, Spirits of the forest up on KS ATM is charging $15 for a filler card game, my last CMoN game charged me $40. Very happy to have the cost up front too.

Rahdo, if a care bear and a grizzly bear played this game together do you think the care bear would still enjoy it? Basically do you think one aggressive player could ruin the experience for a table of passive players? Because that is my concern.

the game thrives on players being aggressive. but the thing is, if that person is, and starts robbing other players, then he starts earning tons of points for being a famous outlaw, and the other players, carebear or not, will have to saddle up and take him out

Thematically, the Whiskey might be to smash over the head of another player and they gain a wound and the item is broken, not to share a drink and get them drunk...

It would be great if you would add an analysis in your final thoughts not only whether you like the game, but also whether the game is worth the price. It it a good value? In this game, would you buy all the upgrades? Would you buy the poker deck?

i'm not really keen on that because 'value for money' is an incredibly subjective thing, and my hope is the runthrough itself provides enough of a feel of what the game is that everyone can decide for themselves whether the game is worth the $

See if you can get a cheap copy of Spurs from Mr. B Games as a substitute: It is also a sandbox western, but with different mechanisms and actions.

If you're looking for a great Western game that also has that stand-up, shoot 'em up, and yell "Yee-haw" moments has Rhado dedcribed, check out the 2013 game called 'Spurs: Tales of the old West'. The shooting and gunfighting mechanic used in that game is very fun.

I really wanted to like this game, but unless you have 5 players who love the sandbox Old Western theme, it plays kinda meh. Plus it has multiple female characters but only one female mini. Poor form.
