Josh I was very glad to hear you talk about your family history. Too many young people today take their freedom for granted - they have no idea what their ancestors sacrificed. My grandfather came from Germany - he was immensely proud to be an American citizen. And you're right in that immigrants come to the US and Canada for a better life for their children and future generations.

Great video Josh. Very informative and interesting. It actually made me google a map of Canada to see why you claimed you're from the "west". There are a few other You Tubers I watch that are in Ontario just north of Detroit MI, and I thought you were from the same area, but no, you are north of the Dakotas. Now I see what you mean. Sunday evening 3/20/16 a fire at the Flying J truck stop in Indianapolis is reported as a 2 million dollar loss. The truck stop was reported to service over 2,000 trucks per day. This will make the whole area very crowded for fueling and parking. Please pass this along so others can plan their stops accordingly. Not too good!

Canadians generally don't prefer driving truck because as you mentioned a bit earlier it is about a $12/hour job. Very near minimum wage. Canadian education system is fairly decent, and both the federal and provincial governments provide a lot of funding to get people educated. So it is a bit like Taxi's. Immigrants have picked up the jobs but even their kids, 1st gen Canadians go on to do something different rather than driving a truck or taxi, just because of the opportunities available.

Trucking/Farming and Trades are also celebrated in the US (For the most part), in Canada, the education system and cultural expectations brand you as a drunk, druggie loser if you do any of those 3. My dad drove truck for almost 20 years, before moving into the Oil and Gas industry as a Co Man (38 years doing that before he retired). He faced constant criticism while he drove truck, and got respect working in oil as gas in a management role (at least until the last few years, with all the enviro nuts). I worked oil and gas in drilling, then did the university thing/white collar for a few years, before getting hit with a huge layoff that ended my career. Now I want to drive truck to be away from all the BS, and its the same story. Celebrated for being a White Collar paper pusher, demonized and constantly ridiculed for working in the Oilfield and Driving Truck. This is also in the West/Mid West of Canada, I can't even imagine how people view truck drivers on the Coats or the Liberal Shithole of Ontario.

My family comes from Paraguay. They went there because Paraguay offered them the land when they were fleeing Russia. I remember learning in University that another reason they left was because of the issue of language in the school. They weren't able to use German with all the fears from World War 2.

The East Indian born truckers that you refer to, are the ones that were involved in trucking back in India as well. They take on trucking in Canada because their forefathers have been doing the same thing as well. Canada has a history of having somewhat relaxed immigration laws and thats why they have attracted a lot of East Indians from that workforce in India. in America, because of their stricter immigration laws mostly well educated immigrants make it through the border and they see trucking as a lower quality job. I'm not saying that I myself see trucking as somewhat of a lower value job. Just saying most New Americans see it as such. BTW, I am Canadian Indian and am a trucker myself.

My explanation is that in Canada, most of the new immigrants come to Canada after applying for permanent resident and doing so, they are eligible to get CDL and work as truck driver. In USA there are many illegal immigrant and because they don't have green card or american citizenship, they cannot apply for CDL in order to be truck driver.
