Making a sheath or case for a tool you like to keep at your fingertips is a quick and easy project. In this video, Chuck shows how he wet molded a sheath for a box knife. You can use these same steps to mold a case for any number of tools. This sheath features a belt clip for easy on and off.

Good video. This is the first tutorial of yours that I have watched straight through. I learned quite a bit. I am a Surgical Technician, and there are times that a knot being tied, is a bit of a reach. Seeing you tie it, tensioning the string with your finger, is exactly the way it's tied off in the Operating Room. I'm currently starting my 11th of 12 rounds of chemo for pancreatic cancer, and your videos are a great way to keep myself occupied.

Cackling inside! "Everything you need can be found at the link below!" $650 and one tutorial later and you've got a wet formed leather sheath for a box knife! Seriously, all the tutorials I've seen on this channel are great. Chuck breaks things down really simply. I used his tutorial on a standard knife sheath. I've never touched leather before 5 days ago, but I've now got a beautiful sheath even though I used cheap stuff. I'm planning on slowly building up my supply of quality tools from Weaver so that my husband and I can be a team, with me lovingly encasing the knives he makes in beautiful leather. Thank you, Chuck.

Great project. Stitching in a Leather belt loop on the back before you assemble makes a good alternative to a belt clip. That's how I made it this afternoon and it worked very well.

What I really love about these videos is that not only do you use simple techniques that have great results and are easy to learn, but it's basically the exact same tools for all projects. So I'd buy a handful of good tools, and can use them to make pretty much anything I want. A couple of tricks shown in a different video also make me think I can finally make use of all that scrap leather I got gifted in a big bag.

The only “improvement” I’d make is to coat the inside / “rough” (flesh) sides of both pieces - after dying, but prior to assembly - with Fiebings Tankote, which kind of hardens and waterproofs those surfaces. If The sheath is never going to see weather, as could be the case for a box knife sheath like this that may only ever be used indoors, this doesn’t really matter, but for a survival knife or other ‘outdoor’ sheath, it’s a key step. Just don’t put any Tankote on the surfaces you’re going to cement together. Those need to be dry leather. And roughen up the smooth grain-side surface before gluing it. Another good tip Chuck gave in this video, which people might miss, is the value of a fairly weak set of inexpensive clamps. I have made the mistake of clamping my cemented edges with too-strong clamps before and they squish the cement out too much and make too tight of a seam, which actually makes for a weaker bond than one that allows a certain amount of cement to remain between the two layers. You want firm, but not crushed. Love your vids, Chuck!

This guy is smart, kind, and a decent teacher. If you want to learn leathercraft well, and with a bit of humor, and meanwhile with all the tips you need and reminders you need at the right time--for instance 10:40 he reminds us to trim our nails or keep them away from the leather...for those who want TL:DR version...just subscribe, you won't be sorry.

Hi Chuck, a couple of suggestions from an old LEATHER SMITH, a couple drops of dish soap and the leather will absorb the water quicker and more completely, I personally like 2 place the clip in another piece of leather, yes there is more sewing, but the tool is not rubbing against the rivet or the clip, I also use plastic rap when forming leather around my projects, no worries when doing it on a gun or other expensive object.
