I am surprised by the number of negative comments and some of those totally inaccurate. This is not a rebranded Panasonic, and there are no plans for Panasonic to produce one. The sensor may be a few years old, but it is still superb, and 17m pixels are more than enough for 95% of photographers. Go and pick one up, handle it, try it and then maybe you will be qualified to be critical.

Is there any difference between this camera and the LUMIX LX100 II, apart from maybe 5-6 years in release date??

Better EVF, Leica UI and a new processor. The rest is mostly cosmetic.

@@michaelbell75 Once a person has a Lumix LX100, as I do, the real difference between that and a D Lux 8 is the person. It ain't what you got, it's what you do with it... I also have a D Lux 3, but my preferred digital compact is my XZ-1. I just sold 3 cameras, so now I only have 6... I enjoy getting the best out of them. It’s an evolution, not a revolution… and that’s good. They also use old sensors in their top spec cameras and guess what? They sell easily. I personally feel Leica cameras are a bit like a Porsche 911, they keep what works and upgrade what doesn’t.

Just a rebadged Panasonic LX100 ii introduced in 2018. Same sensor, same controls, etc. And at a MUCH lower price.
@hedydd2Ай бұрын
Different controls and menu system and a much HIGHER price than the LX100 MkII. The menu and physical controls are now very like the Leica Q series. You could not mistake this for a Panasonic design although it is probably made at a Panasonic factory and retains the lens and key features common to the LX100.
@achillesmjbАй бұрын
@@hedydd2 That's the problem. Basically a Panasonic LX100ii in photo capability since sensor and lens are the same. So basically paying a LOT more for the Leica name and a new menu system.
@clemfandango9534Ай бұрын
Not really no. The user interface is vastly different and reason enough to buy the camera. Its integration with the Leica app on your phone is so good, your phone and the camera basically merge together and can operate really seamlessly between each other. So in reality the user experience is very different to the older Panasonic.
@jacekzielinski7891Ай бұрын
This is almost true, but only on paper. Technical data does not take photos ;) I have both of these cameras. Lumix for 2 years. Leica for 3 days. The photo effects obtained with both devices are VISIBLY different. I won't judge the filming - it doesn't interest me. I won't be surprised if this little Leica becomes legendary.

I assume it’s just a rebadged Panasonic camera… that’s no bad thing as I once owned the D-Lux 5 but in today’s market, I’d have thought it would have had a larger sensor (both megapixels and size) as 17 megapixels is limiting to be honest.

Leica selling a new camera with an eight-year-old sensor and auto focus system is proof that Sony has a complete monopoly. Buying such a camera is violence toward the photographic arts.

There's nothing wrong with '8 year old tech'. I haven't seen a bad review and the age of the tech hasn't affected the camera or photographers ability to make beautiful photos, and to print those up to really large prints (16"x22") with no noticeable drop off in quality. I suppose it may not be the camera for someone who wants to be able to reel off specifications and expect people to be impressed though.
