For those interested the drivers name is Mike Bussan, he got surprised with a cash reward ($5,000) that he rejected and gave to the family instead as well as donating blood. The brothers survived, they’re all doing much better now :)

It do be like that in the "best country of the world". Any other country he could have just called an ambulance. Sure, they'd have taken a bit to show up, but they could have treated them during the transport already and he wouldn't have had to ruin his car and make a risky race through town.

@slipperylatex872 think you should say you don't know because ablilamces are not free in the US. It's about $1000 to be picked up by an ambulance and hospitals aren't free either. They also aren't fast because unless they are already nearby it's going to take time for them to get about 7-14 minutes on average. That is enough time for some one to bleed out or be rushed to a hospital by private car. There is a reason people rarely call ambulances compared to the number of ER visits arriving by personal car, taxi or other transportation that isn't an ambulance. Hospitals are even more expensive.

The victim is stuck on a ventilator due to complications from his injuries. Had he not gone to the hospital immediately, he almost certainly would have died. Uber needs to step up and give him recognition and a new vehicle.

they arent trying to take his car infact the fact that they are totaling it instead of just dropping coverage shows that they are doing this for him, think about it because of the blood he can no longer be an uber driver so the insurance now says hey heres the money for a replacement vehicle were dropping coverage on the one you were using. you do need special insurance coverage to be an uber driver in the first place so its not like they didnt know about his job and the fact they are totaling the damages means that he got into contact with them about it.

Their bottom line is protected by taxation, they wouldn't even see it in their books, if a dealer or Uber chose to assist, or even the insurance company.

Well, no, Uber is right not to let him transport people in a car that's full of blood. Like, it really sucks for the guy, but that's gross. He'd dropped off his Uber passenger so this is not really on Uber. I think they should do the nice (and good PR) thing and replace his car, but I also don't think they should be obliged to, and I definitely wouldn't want to take an Uber that's full of blood.

I understand the bio hazard reasoning but saying his vehicle might need to be totaled for getting blood on the back seat is outrageous. All you need is a 2 dollar wrench to unbolt the seat and pull it out. He's driving like a 50k dollar suv. Women give birth in taxi's getting blood and bodily fluid all over the seat but those drivers get treated like heroes.

I've been in this situation before. Bleeding out in the back and fading in and out. Mostly out. I also was put on a vent and had to get a tracheostomy due to my lungs getting badly damaged and infected. I hope this young man can make a full recovery like I did.(for the most part)

May God heal you, John Bolan. I got pneumonia when i was 2 and was in the hospital for weeks. You could prepare for medicine shortages by collecting a little abuterol and vicks. There are otc meds for breathing, I like the 20% menthol halls cough drops. I have found onion, especially the onions i cook in mustard greens and chicken broth in the oven with a chicken on top will help my breathing. Don't use msg. COPD could develop so no smoking.

I understand being penalized for what one could consider driving recklessly, but at the end of the day he saved someone's life. He shouldn't receive so much negative feedback for it., let alone lose the job entirely. America has a ton of flaws just like any other place. You would think they'd help out a person who went out of their way to help someone in need, but they instead hit him with the "Ok that's great and all but here's your bill". It's overall a shitty response.

@@frogskinshoelace he didn't, his vehicle was deemed unsafe due to a bio hazard. Once he gets a new vehicle he can work again, which his insurance is doing because they totalled his car. How would you like to get in an uber with radioactive fuel cells in the back? It is unsafe and morally wrong to let customers pay for a ride in a vehicle that is deemed a bio hazard. Why does no one understand this?

He just reacted to the situation without thinking. if he would have taken time in that moment to think to the end what his actions would mean, he would have most likely just called 911 and moved on. while picking them up and driving them to hospital is morally the right call, its objectively a bad decision.

All i said is, that there are professionals out there that deal with situations like that and what you need to do before acting is think. there might have been an observer for example that could have reported to the attackers that the target is still alive and than they come back while you take them in your car. if the kids get drive-byed, they're either in a gang or pissed them enough to do so. call 911 and stay save. with all that media, there is a good chance the next drive by is before his house! All i am saying, while direct helping is noble and morally right, you always get in trouble one way or the other. so call the professionals to deal with problems with criminals involved to keep yourself save. And by the way, i saved 3 lives already as a civ first responder in a car accident, involving 2 cars and a motor cycle. How many did you save?

They aren’t really penalizing him I mean it’s blood in the seat I wouldn’t wanna ride in it I would say all he has to do is clean it but idk how Uber would handle it definitely not total the car it’s not that serious just a nice detail job to clean the blood and he’d be good
