City of Chicago and Cook County leaders took to the Northwest Side this evening to celebrate the opening of a new migrant shelter at Portage Park’s St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, which came as the process transitioning new arrivals out of shelters has reached even more difficult heights.
According to city officials, 50 migrants are already being sheltered at St. Bartholomew's, with another 250 expected to be sheltered there too after infrastructural upgrades are completed, like adding necessary amounts of showers and toilets to properly accommodate the property.
WGN's Dana Rebik reports on the story.
