I have actually used rubber threads before and also have used real african threads from Nigeria. You can be so creative with this method. I have a whole playlist dedicated to it including how to get the best threaded hair.

I'm Nigerian and my mom used to do this on my hair when I was in elementary school. You literally don't even need to do that many sections! 6-8 is more than enough. You'll get the same results and it takes wayyyy less time.

can’t remember the time my mom did that to me but she still do this to my little sisters not that tight obviously bc one of them is tender headed asf. But their hair are pretty long. I have to try this method too 😩

Hi Jess, it's just because it was your first time that it took you that long. Threading is fast once you get the hang and the motion. However it pains your wrist and your arm after a couple especially when you have long hair. Getting someone to thread you is your best option

Everyone is right about using weave thread. It’s thicker and stronger. Also look at Pure Estrogen’s channel. She has a great technique for the ends of your hair that will get them completely straight without having to cut.

Having straight hair (I'm a white girl from Northern Europe) and I always feel like natural hair takes so much time, effort and probably also money for the products. But then again it looks SO BEAUTIFUL when taken care of well.

I think it's like that at first, but ften you learn what works for your hair, settle into a routine, and before you know it you're a pro! It also gives you quiet time with yourself and your thoughts (at least for me) sometimes I play music, it's not as bad as it looks lol!

Use thicker thread not that sewing one. It’s not time consuming at all if you know what you’re doing. Good effort.

Hi Jess. Rhanks for the video. I love threading my hair. What works for me is using weave thread. It's much stronger and durable than regular sewing thread. Also it's easier to leave the 2-strand twists in, then begin twisting the thread while slowly, gently pulling your hair away from your head. Please don't go tight at the roots or you'll get a serious headache and won't be able to sleep with it in. That's what happened to me the first couple times in the beginning. With repetition, you'll become quicker. Love that method, especially after deep mane pampering.👍😉

You'll get a hang of it once you get use to it. I can do that in 20 minutes. I also use it as a protective style. I just leave it in for a month or two while wearing my wigs( I still wash and condition my hair as I normally do). It's even better for hair growth.

Its easier and faster with the thicker yarn you can get at Joann's Fabrics. With the thicker yarn you can use bigger sections of hair, making the process faster.

I'm south African and this hair style (well a little more polished look lol) was a staple for every kid😂 so you could tie loose knots around the hair at the end to secure it

This reminded me of the banding method done with hair ties. That's what I do at night to preserve my twist outs and get a little more stretch the next day! ♥️ Great vid! Awesome way to get that blowout look

OnlyOneJess, 'Weave' thread is actually the original thread used for African threading. It's a lot stronger than sewing thread, less prone to break, and is also slightly waxed to make it easier to use. If you double the thread (like you did), then make a large knot on the end, the knot helps you get a better grip on the root of your hair. Once you reach the ends of your hair, make another knot with the thread, but this time make it round the hair itself, and that will stop the thread from slipping off the ends of your hair. You can also make the actual twists of thread much closer together and that will give you an even more stretched effect. You'll get faster the more you practice, but depending on the style and how small you make your parts, it can take anything from 30 minutes to an hour. It's such a shame that this technique is dying out throughout Africa. :(

I've actually been using this method since I had my big chop and it's really helpful especially if when the hair is short it's makes them look longer. It's not really time consuming, it's just a matter of knowing how to make them. And trust me, you don't have to make them that small. I can assure you that 4 or 5 are enough and at the end you can just make a knot

Well done for a first try👏👏👏. Loving your channel!! I use this method to stretch my hair all the time. I'm from Zimbabwe so I practically grew up doing this and it works so well for length retention when used as a protective style. I usually use wool/yarn . I feel it stretches the hair out a lot more than with just thread.

But it does grow it also. My mum used to thread straight after washing with castor oil, that kept your hair moisturised for the time the hair was kept in the thread so less breakage

Hi 👋 I’m so happy that you tried this method it’s really 🔥🔥I’ve been doing it all my life and it’s very healthy for your hair I think everyone should use it but as for the threading it doesn’t take that long to do it took me about 5 to 10 min to do it and 1to 3 min to take it out it’s a very quick and healthy method ❤️💯💯

Looking great Jess! An African naturalista here - once you get the hang of it it wont take you so long, I literally take less than 30 minutes threading my own hair. Random Fact - in my language (Setswana) we call this "maphondo" :)
