Sadder still than Erics passing, was the conciding with Freddie Mercurys passing on the SAME day. Both were HUGE losses to the world of music, but Erics death was barely mentioned while Freddie's dominated the news cycle. Another tragic coinciding passing date was Farrah Fawcett, on the same day as Micheal Jackson. May they ALL rest in peace.

@Ericlogos You may be confusing this song with God Gave Rock and Roll To You II, which they recorded in early '91 for the Bill and Ted soundtrack with Eric Singer on the recording but Eric Carr in the video. But this was from Hot in the Shade, recorded in '88-'89, and as was said, Carr didn't get sick until the HITS tour ended in '90.

This was their 2nd biggest popular hit; it hit the top 10 in 1990. So they're not young here--this is middle aged Kiss, around 40yo, years after they dropped the makeup. Cool thing about Kiss is that they have a long history that covers a variety of musical styles. Other great Kiss ballads are Reason to Live, I Still Love You, and most of all Beth--their biggest hit ever, topping even this song. You'll probably be shocked when you hear Beth. You won't believe it's Kiss.

@@davidgreene6607 Actually, this is from the "Hot in the Shade" album from 1989. A brief history of Kiss for you guys. They started in 1973 wearing makeup with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley on guitar and Peter Criss on drums. They never appeared without their makeup until ‘82 or ‘83. Peter Criss left the band in 1980 and was replaced by Eric Carr (who plays on this song). Ace Frehley left a couple years later and was replaced by Vinnie Vincent. In ‘82 or ‘83 they took the makeup off for the first time when their video Lick It Up came out (and that’s why they’re photographed without showing their faces for the first part of that video). Vinnie Vincent was kicked out of the band and replaced briefly with Mark St. John and then he was replaced with Bruce Kulick (who is playing on this song). That lineup of Gene, Paul, Eric and Bruce was considered to be the second great lineup of Kiss and they stayed together until ‘92 when Eric Carr died of cancer and was replaced by Eric Singer. They stayed together until 1996 when Gene and Paul reunited with Ace and Peter (the original lineup) and they put the makeup back on permanently. Peter Criss left the band again around 2000 and was replaced by Eric Singer, and Ace left again a couple years later and was replaced by Tommy Thayer. And they’ve stayed together until present day.

Young Kiss is Kiss in makeup... this is in the late 80s early 90s when they took off the makeup out of respect for the makeup. They decided to do something they never had done, and it worked. They put the makeup back on when they reunited in 1998 for the Psycho Circus album. They have a crazy, roller coaster career that is quite interesting to learn about.

This is back around 1991. During this time and on the Asylum album, Gene was playing basses made by Stuart Spector, the KING of basses. :) I may be a bit biased as I have two Spector basses. They are awesome instruments. On a personal note, when my wife and I got married, this song was our first dance. When I first suggested a KISS song as our first dance, I got quite the look from her. She's not a KISS fan....at all. Then I played the song for her and heard the words and agreed to using the song. Now it's her favorite KISS song.

A little Kisstory for you guys. They hit the music scene in 1973. From 1973-1980 the band was Paul, Gene, Peter Criss(drums) and Ace Frehley(guitar). Peter left and Eric Carr joined in 1980 Eric Carr died from heart cancer in 1991 and was replaced with Eric Singer. Ace left in 1982 and Vinnie Vincent joined, Vinnie then left in 1984 and Mark st. John left(medical reasons) in 1985 and Bruce Kulic joined Bruce stayed until they reunited with the original members in 1997. Also, From 1973-1984 they did not allow themselves to be photographed without the makeup. They took the makeup of in '83 before the "Lick it Up" album. They put the makeup back on in 1997 when they did a reunion tour. They currently tour in full makeup and stage show with Paul, Gene, Tommy Thayer(guitar- wearing Ace makeup) and Eric Singer(drums- wearing Peter's makeup) The band in the "forever" video is Paul, Gene, Bruce Kulick(guitar) and the awesome Eric Carr on drums(his last time appearing with the band before passing away, he begged the doctors to let leave the hospital to record this video) That said all music you see of the band without makeup is from the 80's.

In 2003 we literally had this song played (the actual cd) during our wedding ceremony. After my dearly departed Daddy left me at the alter hubby and I just looked at each other while this song played. So long story short, I met him through friends. They told these wild drinking stories about him and I wanted nothing to do with him. He eventually got the message and stopped. One day hanging with friends KISS was brought up in the conversation. And we were just talking about we liked and how long we were fans. At that point I had been to a couple of their concerts. We were so wrapped up we didn’t notice everyone had left the room. Next thing I knew we were dating in June and engaged in November. We got married the following August. By engagement “Forever” was our song. It was the one thing he wanted to make sure was in the wedding. We also played “I live my life for you” by Firehouse for the lighting of the unity candle. By the end of that song the preacher was singing along. I knew the song already but hubby heard it one day and said it has to be in our wedding. If you haven’t reacted to Firehouse yet your should. They are an underrated band.

My favorite Kiss power ballad is "God Gave Rock n Roll to You" because it's not about the love of a certain person, man or woman, it's for all of us. I like to think of it as a Universal Love/Hype Song. I also love that you can hear Paul Stanley's slight lisp in the song...somehow it adds to it. "I know life can sometimes be hard, and I know life can sometimes be a drag, but people we have been given a gift. We have been given a road...and the name of that road is Rock n Roll"....classic!

This music video was from 1989... the non-makeup era of Kiss (The makeup era was from 1973 to 1982... and then the reunion in 1996 til today). The album was 'Hot in the shade' and it was a gold record (half million copies sold) in the US, and 'Forever' was the big hit single... Apparently, famous crooner Michael Bolton co-wrote the song w/ Paul Stanley (Bolton had been in a band w/ Kiss lead guitarist Bruce Kulick)... Stanley said Bolton got credit but, he wrote the bulk of the track. A while ago, Kiss fans voted on VH1 for their most popular 'power ballad', and 'Forever' made the list over other Kiss hit ballads like 'Beth'... 'Hard luck woman'... and 'Shandi' (which were from Kiss' makeup era). The original Kiss was in makeup w/ Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley (lead guitar) and Peter Criss (drums) from 1973 until 1979, when they had dominated the 70's decade. However, Peter Criss was out of the band in 1980 (his skills were compromised by drug & alcohol abuse), even tho he appeared on the cover of the 'Unmasked' album in '80, he did not play on it. Eric Carr (drums) was picked in 1980 and became the 'Fox' character in makeup and did the tour... However, by 1982, Ace Frehley also left Kiss due to his addictions... Kiss hired lead guitarist Vinnie Vincent (he assumed the Egyptian wizard character) to do the 1982/'83 tour, but it was a disaster... album sales were poor, concert ticket sales were worse. In 1983, Kiss decided to take off the makeup to promote the 'Lick it up' album. Paul Stanley felt that the makeup belonged to the original 4 personalities, and the band had changed, so the makeup was not viable in the 80's. It worked... Kiss saw huge record sales in 1983 and toured without makeup successfully for the first time... However, Vinnie Vincent was let go in 1984... Mark St. John (lead guitar) did the 'Animalize' album in '84, but a health condition kept him from touring... Bruce Kulick (lead guitar) did the tour and was asked to join Kiss soon after. After Eric Carr died in 1991, Eric Singer (drums) joined for the 'Revenge' album in 1992, but the non-makeup Kiss saw their popularity decline on the 1992/ '94 tour. The reunion w/ Peter Criss and Ace Frehley came about when Kiss performed for 'MTV Unplugged' in 1995... They announced that the original Kiss was back together in makeup for a world tour in 1996. However, that reunion ended by 2001 as clashes mounted between the band and Frehley & Criss. Eric Singer (drums) began performing in Peter Criss' makeup since 2001... Tommy Thayer (lead guitar) started performing in Ace's makeup since 2002.

You guys would love "Sure know something" it's off the same album as "I was made for lovin you" and has a cool video! By the way, they were the first concert I ever went to, way back in 1979, and believe it or not I was 4 years old! HAHA! As for today's selection., "Forever" is off their 1989 album "Hot in the shade". The makeup came off in 1982 and they spent about 14 years and several albums without it until the reunion with Ace and Peter in 1996.

Jon is correct! Sure Know Something is one of if not the most melodic songs Kiss has recorded. Either the original video or the MTV Unplugged version.

I seen them for my first time in 1977, I was 5 years old my uncle took me, I was so blown away. BTW Since that first time I have now seen them 78 times, in 1996 seen them 3 times in 4 days, and 12 times on that reunion tour. I have seen them on 13 different tours since 77, with the reunion shows, Rock the Nation, and current tour as my favorites. Even though saying one over another is quite difficult TBH.

@@Rocky-N-Angel 78 times is impressive! My hats off to you! I saw them in '79. once on the Revenge tour, twice during the late 90s with Ace and Peter back, and once in a smaller setting of about 1,000. They did this small club tour in 1991 or 92 and it was at little Center Stage Theater in Atlanta. That was a great show! I also met them and got my pic taken with Gene and Paul! They did this autograph tour in the summer of 1993 for Alive III. Paul was cool but Gene was amazing. They told us going in that the band could sign one item only. I had a Dynasty program and the 8x11 they gave everyone. He said "Sorry about the wait." and I said, "It's ok, it was worth it!" He smiled and signed the program and quickly grabbed the photo and signed that too. It was a very cool moment. You wanted the best...you got the best!

@@jonbaggett2773 Nice memories you have as well. I have met them all in separate situations individually never as the band in whole or with make-up.I will one day go through and see how much I have spent on concert tickets just for KISS. I also seen Pantera 11 times from 93-2001. I do remember spending $500 each for 2nd row at the Psycho Circus tour, and 3rd row at the Reunion tour. I use to be at a concert as an attendant every week seeing someone. I also had the hook up for tickets, as I worked security for venues here in Cincinnati Ohio, It had it's perks. My late teens to my early 30's was filled with concerts, since then I see maybe 4 shows a year on average. Very few have experienced what we have that is for sure. We will have some very vivid memories of those times as well. Thanks for your story I enjoyed the read. Have a great day.

This is KISS in their glory from 1989. This song was co written by Michael Bolton. Yeah that Michael Bolton - the same artist that sang Time, Love and Tenderness. KISS fans were really stunned by this one. This is truly Paul Stanley at his vocal best. The acoustic guitar solo on here is by Bruce Kulick and Gene Simmons is playing an acoustic bass. Wow 😮

This song is from the album Hot in the Shade and it was released in 1989. It was the last full album they recorded before Eric Carr passed away in 1991. He actually sings lead on the song Little Caesar. Hide Your Heart and Rise To It are also great!

The crazy thing about this, looking back now is that when I was a kid this song came out, it was kiss as it was. However, through this era it felt like the end of kiss. The make up and big hits were 20 years old and all of that, even though the band was still amazing you just didn’t figure that they’d keep going. Then the reunion happened, full make up again for another 25 years, it’s so crazy to look back to this time and think of everything that happened since then. Rather than the end of kiss it was more of a rebirth.

Early rock n' roll music was amazing for many of us. Please react to the legendary Bobby Rydell .. he came out in the fifties. Singer, dancer, comedian, actor, drummer, a performer of excellence, Bobby is iconic and was known for a golden voice! After more than a 5-decade long career, he sadly just passed a few months ago. He was known for kindness too. Biggest hits : VOLARE, SWAY, FORGET HIM, ITTY BITTY GIRL, I'VE GOT BONNIE, THE CHA CHA , THE BEST MAN CRIED, I'LL NEVER DANCE AGAIN, WILDWOOD DAYS , ONE GIRL, THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC and countless covers ....much of his music taught many of us kids about love.
