In this episode of Wandering Wagners we travel to Custer State Park, South Dakota where we are met with seasonal closures, then head further North to Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort in Spearfish, SD where we met up with our friends ‪@AlliChuckAdventures‬ for New Years Eve!
We left Hot Springs, SD and ventured North to ‪@CusterStatePark‬ where we stayed at the Game Lodge Campground in the park. While the snow didn't follow us here, it was still so very beautiful! We attempted to drive the park and go through the narrows etc but all of the roads that lead to the cool features of the park were CLOSED! While we realize they probably do this for maintenance and safety reasons since the weather can be unpredictable, it was still a huge bummer for us because we think Winter is the best season to explore parks like this! Summer leads to huge crowds and you can't see the scenery as well through all the trees so we prefer Winter. We opted to drive the "Wildlife Loop" road trail, which they suggest when you want to see abundant wildlife. However, we didn't see much! We saw a handful of Bison at the ‪@RWC__06‬ in the corral which was neat and the dogs liked watching them through the ‪@Jeep‬ window! We also saw a coyote and some more bison really far away from the road but still pretty cool.
We then traveled north to Spearfish and stayed at Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort ‪@elkhornridgeresort‬ .This Resort is open year round with FHU available which is pretty amazing! They have a great policy that we LOVE, which you can come in without a reservation, and self register and pick from available sites they list at the office. The campground has a lot of amenities and it is very close to Deadwood, which we will be visiting a lot in the next video. We rang in 2024 with friends and Lynn made an amazing Turkey dinner in our ‪@NeXusRV‬ Wraith convection oven. What better way to say hello to 2024!
