Yeah, restoring that one was definitely worth the investment. I just looked up what a new one cost and it’s over $1000.

For sure. My customer was told by the Matco guy that one of his 3/4 impacts couldn't be fixed but he'd be happy to sell him a new one, and the other would cost $365. I fixed both of them for $320.

@@CoyleTools How can it not be fixed? Most anything can be fixed. When it can't be fixed it usually due to catastrophic failure, lack of available parts or the cost to repair exceeds the cost to buy. And none of that applies here. $320 is a bargain.

@@jamescaron6465 When he told me what the Matco guy said, I basically replied with what you just said, then immediately went to my parts supplier's web site and saw loads of parts were available. I'll never understand why some vendors would rather have no business than some of the business. It's like he took a buy-a-new-one-or-nothing-at-all approach. Unless the Matco guy was going off bad information. That would be the only way I could give him the benefit of the doubt.

@@CoyleTools Well it is one of two things. first he is getting bad information (and that information would be coming from Matco itself, which is sleazy as hell) or he is relying on customer trust, and naivety. "Well he is the dealer, so he should know". I'm inclined it is the first. Knowing what I know what tool truck dealers are on the hook for, you guys need every last customer and can't afford to piss any off. Probably went to Matco for parts and they said "nope no parts here". And that 3/4 looks suspiciously similar to my IR 1/2 only bigger. so I am sure parts are plentiful and reasonably priced.

@@jamescaron6465 Yes, it is built EXACTLY like an Ingersoll, which it may be. Matco has changed manufacturers though the years, but every one I've worked on looks similar.

Do you do all your tool repairs one day a week or each tool the day you get them in to get parts asap? I always send out my repairs but now I'm thinking of setting up a repair area.

Usually Saturdays. I take them apart and diagnose one week, then order parts. The following Saturday after the parts arrive, I repair and reassemble. I like doing it. It's fun and kind of therapeutic. Plus it's nicer to get the money myself instead of giving it to another company. My margin that way is so low it's hardly worth it. I just do it as more of a service to maintain a good relationship -- it's certainly not a money maker that way. Hit me up if you have questions about getting going on our own.
