I've been hunting 4 years now and I've learned a lot from your guys' channel! This year a nice buck appeared in an unexpected spot 50 yards away during my rifle season. There were a few small branches covering the body, I was patient and took my time. The vitals were clear from branches but I was very nervous to take the shot. I took the chance and he dropped right there. My new personal best buck! There were two deer I passed on this year because the shot didn't seem clear enough and didn't want to risk injuring them, I learned that from you guys. Thankfully that buck wasn't moving at all for a good 20 seconds I could line up a shot between branches.

We have a buck that has short tines but tall beams we call "Goober" because his rack is kind of lopsided. Guessing he might be an older deer with similar rack to "Grave Digger".

Dr Grant, lately I’ve been struggling with using cell cameras. I love to hunt, and even more I enjoy putting forth the work and effort for habitat improvements to see what evolves from it. I have used cell cameras in the past and the results are proven; however, I feel as though a true hunter pitches himself against the game and not technology against the game. I realize that using a cell camera is to the hunter’s advantage, but the deer haven’t evolved to a level to counteract the technology we have in today’s world. Basically I struggle with whether or not using them is acceptable in fair chase hunting. What’s your true thoughts on this without any sponsorship intervention?

I published the paper on using trail cameras (very crude back then) to study deer and have enjoyed learning from the data trail cameras collect ever since. I will continue to use them. If you prefer to not use them, that's great too! I hope all hunters will respect other hunters' choices.

Grant, I have a question for you regarding the removal of the red cedars. I have been actively doing the same thing, with the exception of yet having run fire through my property. I am curious though as to the reason why those cedar stumps are left so high above ground level? I try to cut my stumps low enough, and flat across the top so as to be able to drive my tractor through these woods and not damage my tires or undercarriage. Do you leave them high for the later removal of digging them up? And if that is the case, would it not be best to leave them taller than shown for better leverage? This makes me wonder if I am doing more work than is necessary. Thanks for another great video!

Thanks! The crew was moving fast and simply didn't cut the stumps any lower.

Awesome I’m excited to see some turkey videos this spring in NC deer hunting is slowing down and turkey hunting is around the corner we have a lease that we hunt on and we can’t do habitat management because it’s not our land but we are trapping nest predators and planting food plots y’all let me know y’all’s thoughts on the 2 out of the three y’all mention for turkey numbers do y’all think we would have success each year in turkey numbers
