It’s really a significant story point. It shows that Dr. Marvin is in many ways just as unbalanced as Bob is. He’s consumed in ego.

And also fails to mention that *he's* the author, but does praise how "ground-breaking" it is.

@danielfife348 Well, according to Dr. Marvin, he must have felt he had to tell Bob that he was on vacation in case Bob tries calling him there wouldn't be any answer and Dr. Marvin would have had to tell him if he has any problems to go to the emergency room for help and who to contact if he has any questions or needs to talk which was Dr. Harmen explaining to talk to Dr. Harmen until he (Dr. Marvin) returns back from his vacation. However, Bob really was reading the book which I saw in the next scene he was in when he tried calling Dr. Marvin on the phone where maybe there was something he didn't understand that only Dr. Marvin could answer and not Dr. Harmen himself.

@@danielfife348 Yes, Bob decided to depend on Dr. Marvin and not wanting to talk to Dr. Harman especially since at the end of the movie Bob did say how out of all the psychologists he's seen, Dr. Marvin was the one he felt most comfortable with since he was saying things like, "I certainly wasn't ready with Dr. Carswell and felt it wasn't time" and then said to Dr. Marvin, "but with you finally I'm ready."

@afriendofbean this is exactly like this woman 3 hours from me and my wife of where she was too dependent on Heidi to where it was a burden on us and wojld call all hrs of the day , not give us space

@@danielfife348 Maybe when this woman saw you and your wife, she must have felt you and your wife look like very helpful people. Especially since Bob felt the same thing when he saw Dr. Marvin in his office for the first time where he said "Dr. Marvin, you can help me for the first time I can see there's hope." Not only that, out of all the psychologists, Dr. Marvin was the only one who gave him a book called "Baby Steps" that helps solve problems where the other psychologists didn't give him anything and Bob must have realized that his last psychologist Dr. Carswell retired from the job just to get away from Bob himself since the moment he got off the phone with Dr. Marvin, he said to himself "free" that he's getting away from Bob.
