The G95 is the little sibling to the Lumix G9. It lacks many of the G9's features, but has a few the G9 doesn't have. It could be a viable alternative depending on your needs and budget.

About 18 months ago I bought the G9 because I wasn't happy with the ergonomics and viewfinder of my GX9. I knew it was big, but I didn't know how big. A few months later I traded the GX9 for a G95 and fell in love with it. I thought it was a camera created for video... instead it gives me a lot of satisfaction even with photography. Eventually I started leaving the G9 at home and when it had a display problem, Amazon refunded me and now I'm keeping the money for a future G95 mark II. The G95 has perfect ergonomics, light and with all the controls comfortable. Have a good evening and thanks for your videos

Aloha ' Mahalo for the video ! I grew up in Tumwater WA. And hiked pretty much most of the Olympics and pacific crest trail and each time I always found something new with my photography! Great pics by the way . I've always had my cannon dslr's and now switching to the G95 here in Kauai .After researching I feel pretty comfortable this should be what I'm needing ! ⛱️

Hi Todd. Thanks for your videos. I really like your conversational style. In April I found a G95 from Adorama for $490. Open box with 180 shutter actuations, kit lens, all the paperwork, full manufacturer's warranty. Yeah, done deal! The 12-60 is a great range for one-lens shooting. It's not as much fun to shoot as my E-M 10 mark ii (which reminds me of my 1970s Mamiya film SLR), but it's fun enough. And I love the images. Now to learn to use all the features as second nature! 📷

G95 is probably the most under realized camera in Micro 4/3rds. With the Leica 12-60, it's an awesome combo. No live composite and extreme bulk for Micro 4/3rds crossed off the G9 immediately. The Olympus 5-II is smaller and prettier, but the G95 is easier to learn and remember how to use.

Hi Todd, thanks a lot for the video, the G95 with the kit lens 12-60 is with me for 1 1/2 year and like it very much, it is sadly my only real camera but with two old adapted pentax lenses and lumix 20mm 1.7 & 45-200 i have all around nice kit, Low light was my main concern but managed to shoot basically almost all i need, the one thing (according to reviewers online) that the G95 is better over the G9 is in high ISO's image: though it is produces slightly less detailed image, it doesn't have magenta shift and it is important for me.

Big thanks to you sir for highlighting in detail a feature unique to the G95 no other Lumix G series camera has, Live Composite Mode. This feature makes a huge difference for long exposure photography. With LCM' the G95 has a lot more options for creative long exposure photography that separates it from other Lumix G series cameras. Again, thank you so much for pointing this out thus I subscribed to your channel.

New subscriber here Todd. Love your content. I recently switched to Panasonic. My first purchase was the GX85 to test out for a while to decide if I will make the switch. I decided on the switch, so I traded in my full-frame camera for the G95. I loved the way it felt in the hand, and I enjoy shooting with it. Was going back and forth on whether to purchase the G9. I pulled the trigger and my G9 showed up today. Can't wait to take it out!

I agree with your thoughts. I have both the G9 and the G95. The G9 is better for certain types of photography and video, but for some things the G95 is just as good and because it is smaller and lighter I usually take it if I'm out walking in the hills or street or on my bike. For my hands the G9 has perfect ergonomics for holding while taking photos, but I use a strap when carrying it, however the G95 I can walk about comfortably with it in my hand for hours on end and is for me the perfect compromise between smaller/lighter than G9 but bigger and better grip and more button functionality than some of the smaller range finder styles. I love that it has the dedicated WB, ISO, and +/- buttons on top same as the G9.

Hi Todd, I did a lot of research about the Lumix G9 the Lumix G 95 and the Lumix GH5 when I upgraded from my G 85. The thing I liked about the G 95 is it has unlimited recording for a video. The reason I purchased the G9 was because it has a high resolution mode and I like the handle of it better to. I purchased mine used at Mike’s camera in Sacramento for $699 in person. Before I bought the lumix G 85 I had the G7 and I used the panorama mode on both of them when I need to do a panorama picture now I use my iPad Pro or my cell phone. I have been subscribed since you have been around maybe three or 400 subs it’s nice to see you getting close to 1000. Have a great weekend!

Interesting points. IMO, it's always best to have two cameras- one big one that does "everything" and one small one. I went for the GH6 and a G100. They seem to compliment each other fairly well. The G95 would be great though as a smaller bigger camera or a one-camera-only setup.

Yes, good point on the unlimited recording. I forgot that one and it’s important. I was ask to film a community event and they wanted one uncut video, so the G95 fit the bill.

For me the one thing that the G9 lacks that made me gravitate towards the G95 is the lack of unlimited recording. It is impossible to use the G9 to record a podcast/long events. As it stands only the G85, G95, GH5, GH5S, GH5 II, and GH6 that can offer unlimited stabilized 4K recording with mic input. The GX8 doesn't have video IBIS, the GX85/GX9 don't have mic input.

True. They seem to have fixed the recording time limitation in the Mark II. They would've caught a lot of flak if they hadn't
@elzafir
@elzafir 6 ай бұрын
@@ToddBannor True. For that price, the Mark II better be the perfect crop sensor hybrid camera. So far, the only weakness it has is the lack of AF features on high speed 1080p recording modes. Budget wise, it's more than double the used price of G95 and triple the G85, so it's not on my radar right now (maybe in 2028 😂).

I’ve had both before but now trying to determine which one to re purchase. Thinking g95 is a little lighter for walking around the streets. Planning on using manual lenses with zone focus. You mentioned the Laowa 17mm have you tried the ttartisans 17mm? Curious is the ttartisans 17 has more photo unique character.

Got back into G95 for street. Waiting for the camera to arrive with kit lens. Also picked up Laowa 17mm and 7artisans 55mm. I like manual lenses for zone/distance focusing I think I used to watch your canon 77d videos back in the day.

I've got a GX85 at the moment and have been using it to record videos but need something with more video-centric features and hardware. Between the G85 and G95, which would you choose? Here in Canada I can get the G85 new for $899 and the G95 new for $999, both with the 12-60mm kit lens. Is the extra $100 worth it? I would buy used but unfortunately we don't have used gear companies like MPB here.
@ToddBannor
@ToddBannor Жыл бұрын
I think the G95 is worth it to get the better sensor, extra features like Live View Composite and what I think is better color science. The downside is the increased 4K crop due to more pixels on the sensor and that the G95, like the G85 doesn’t capture full-width 4K.
@sdhute

Question have you had any issues with the EVF on the g95 in sunlight? It appears I have to raise the level way beyond mid to make it usable. I don’t remember this issue on my previous g95
@ToddBannor
@ToddBannor Жыл бұрын
No, I've never had that problem, so you may want to have it checked. What I did have happen is the LCD screen stopped rotating the image when I flipped it around and put it flush against the back of the camera. I had to have the screen replaced under warranty. There was also an adventure in getting the camera returned, which I've thought about doing a video on. Evidently, there is an Oak Park, Georgia, and whomever in service filled out the shipping info on the carrier website selected that instead of Oak Park, Illinois. So, it disappeared for awhile and tracking showed it couldn't be delivered. It showed up a week after it should have and the box had been slit open through the tape, but everything was inside. And then I figured out who slit it, it was someone with the carrier, who reached in and pulled the packing slip, which had the proper town and state on it, so it got rerouted to me. Whew! Could've ended much worse.

EVF is surprisingly good, not great mind you, but good colors and sharpeners, and I wear glasses, and it is fine. The rear LCD not so great, acceptable, but could be better. If ‘Panny’ had only done a few things a little differently/ better, Folks on the InterWebs would be waxing on and on about how great the G95 is. My take ( as an owner of a G95 ) is Panasonic should have done better than the insipid 49 point AF system. Todd may have a very valid point about the two sensors being a bit different, and that might explain the fewer AF points. Am I saying the G95 should have had as many AF points as the G9? No, but at least double or more. ( The EM5 Mark III has over 100, although I do realize it is a different setup. ) The rear LCD could have been better, at least at the original MSRP. I think they had room to put a bigger battery in, but I’m not an ‘Engineer.’ 😆 I don’t often have issues with the DFD focusing system, but again, more points would have helped here. Video performance is not so bad, but does fall behind others, as we all know. At the price they are going for now, the G95 is a solid choice, and a ‘bargain.’ Good luck trying to get the battery grip for it presently. It is listed as ‘Discontinued’ on B&H. I have heard the G95 may soon be as well. Hope this might help others and yourself. Peace

How do you find the Auto Focus on the G95 - I have the g85 but in 4K you have to use it semi manual AF as it just doesn’t get focus - the G95 has better handling and auto iso in video manual mode unlike the g85 but the crop factor in 4K of 1.18 for the g85 vs 1.25 for the g95 is a disappointment
@ToddBannor
@ToddBannor Жыл бұрын
The G95's autofocus is fine for stills, but tricky for video. However, I just uploaded a new video that I filmed with the G95 and kit 12-60 lens and it seems to have done fine. The crop difference is due to the denser pixels on the G95's sensor, it doesn't have a processor capable of full-width 4K as the G9 does.
