Tommy Mottola was determined to turn her into a star and she has star quality, that’s why there are artists before and after her debut, who have fizzled out when she hasn’t. Tommy Mottola didn’t support her because of Selena. He was looking for a singer and dancer, not an actress. He wanted a girl who he could turn into a global star not a local Latin star. Her first single was a smash hit. It topped the charts. So did all her movies. Globally, J Lo isn’t known for Selena but her romcoms. J Lo was determined to make it which is why she would’ve, come hell or high water. P Diddy didn’t sign J Lo. He just took a few songs from other artists and gave them to J Lo. But Tommy Mottola had already done that. P Diddy was just trying to compete with Tommy for her attention.
