This video was NOT sponsored but I did receive a complimentary kit from Family Tree DNA in exchange for this video.
These are my ftDNA genealogy results.
Here is a 10% discount code for the Family Tree DNA website: NaturallyHH10. This is their website: bit.ly/NatHighf...
I did their autosomal DNA test.
The other sites I used were www.dna.land, www.gedmatch.com and www.promethease.com ($5)
I really hope this helps people accept that black people CAN grow long hair! I was very happy when ftDNA agreed to provide me with a kit so I could talk to you all about my experience. Since I'm of Afro-Caribbean (Trinidad & Tobago) descent, I was keen to hear where my ancestors came from. I'm overwhelmingly happy with my results, especially with the added details from DNA.land, gedmatch and promethease.

I figured you were 90% African. It's silly to me that people think Africans cannot grow long hair. The longest hair I've ever seen is on Rastafarians who have hair sweeping the floor sometimes. What they really mean is "Africans cannot grow long straight hair" which is absolutely true, and why should we! ^^
@ananse77
@ananse77 8 жыл бұрын
Rastafarian dreadlocks includes shed hair, so that is very different. Also don't have to deal with breakage from combing the hair and other manipulation.

Ananse77 makes a good point. A lot of people think 'Ras' is able to grow long because of shedding.

actually as someone who had locks for 4 years and took them out a large amount is shed hair but that still doesn't change the fact that within that protective layer of shed hair is healthy long and full hair. think of the shed hair as a protective cover.

Balochi and mackrani are in fact African tribes in Pakistan!!! my father is Sheedi (also called Siddhi or siddi) which is also a African ethnic "minority group" living in Pakistan but originating in East Africa (Tanzania,Kenya) Google search these for more information. Also the slave trade went global and wasn't just limited to the Americas (research the African presence in ancient Asia) peace to you beautiful sister.

Some of these comments are simply hilarious to me. Who says Africans can't be light skinned? I will say though that I highly doubt there is anyone on the face of this planet in 2016 that is 100% ANYTHING. We're all mixed at varying degrees. I'm West African but I know that even in Africa there was a lot of mixing going on.

This is true but unfortunately for most black Americans not that feasible, in my case my mother was adopted and it was a closed adoption which means she has no access to any of her mother or fathers information. while I can get some access to my fathers info he hasn't been active in my life as he signed over all his paternal rights to my mother. So for me this would be the best option :(

Naturally High A vlogger I had much love and respect due her genteel and modest manner. She demonstrated caring for natural waist length hair. A few of the styles reminded me of how I used to braid my own until I got comfy with my two french braids which I parted in the middle and pinned up Swiss Miss style. I washed my bushy waist length afro texture hair in the shower with the original green Herbal Essence conditioning shampoo then braided it in the shower while still wet . My hair would be damp for two to three day's. I met my hubby with my shaved head which he loved. That is the style I maintain.

You definitely do not look mixed - you have a beautiful deep complexion and type 4hair. A test that shows IQ capacity is similar to eugenics which is not scientific, however, based on racial bias. The fact that you got different results from each test proves that these calculations are questionable in my opinion.

Besides Arab slave trade, there are other possibilities: Spain and Portugal were under Arab/Berber rule for a long time, and because many people do have Arab & North African in Southern parts of Spain and Portugal. So some of the Middle Eastern genes could have come through Spanish/Portuguese ancestors. Also, old African kingdoms such as Mali etc did have trade connections with the North African Arabs & Berbers through Sahara. Some trader might have acquired an Arab wife or an Arab may have settled in West Africa and had children with a local woman.

@maricog658
@maricog658 8 жыл бұрын
- The Esan land is a small group from Edo state (a state right in the middle of the Yoruba and Igbo people) -We are known primarily for our culture. (music, dances and folklore) Celebration/Parties are a way of life lol. If you search up Esan people the first thing that would pop up would be the orange beads which is worn during occasions. -Esan women are known to be beautiful with long hair (Ik its mostly about how well you care for your hair but genetics plays a role too). Women are also called mermaids by other Nigerians bc they're always in water. (Which apparently is an insult but I take it as a compliment lol) -Historically Esans are farmers and hunters. which makes sense because the Esan land is rural. - A famous Nigerian musician named Sonny Okosun (who is actually my aunt's brother) is Esan. Sorry this doesn't seem like much I was born and raised in the US so I can only give you what I know from family. And how I guessed you were related to the Esan people was your face bone structure, your hair, and your eyes, and correct me of I'm wrong but some Esan women are tall and I think you're tall too

Belle Pierre nah , ma you haven't travelled enough. wolof who make up a huge chuck of senegal they are only west africans because of their location, their brand of african ancestry is more related to sudanese, nilotic nubians.You will not find someone who look like them in congo,in cameroon, in nigeria or even central africa etc..because their look is their nationality.Senegal is mostly moslem but you will find enough people who follow african religions. You just can't tell. These people recognize each other because their look is pretty much their nationality.

+Stephanie Martin lol ok. I know you don't want responses, but I'm gonna say *something* haha. Don't get me wrong, I feel like what you're saying is overwhelmingly the case in the Americas, but if you look at Africans, they *can* differ. Examples: Igbo/Ibo peoples of Nigeria (as opposed to Yoruba who tend to be darker in complexion), native peoples of South Africa (peoples like Khoisan; they are very caramel like and have almost monolids like Asians), and some East African people (like from Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia), and I'm sure there's more...Africa is so huge, and it doesn't make sense to make it so that everyone on that entire continent has the same features. Similar, yeah, but not the same. But of course, it's no secret that Africa actually has the most genetic diversity out of anywhere else on the planet. How else could it make sense Africans are the first people? I Love Africans!! :)

I'm not sure that hair length is much of an indicator of ethnicity, when I used to let mine grow for years back in my teens it barely got down to my shoulders, it grows quite quickly and seems to vary in speed a lot seasonally but doesn't carry on growing long enough to get very long and is all replaced within a couple of years, some people's hair strands seem to go on growing many years. Hair type will affect how long it looks because straight hair hangs down further, the curlier hair is the longer it has to go to get to the same length which will affect perception of how long the hair of different groups gets.

@truthbetold7670
@truthbetold7670 7 жыл бұрын
we aint the same. Simply put. Since when does having a general distant african heritage "make someone the same"?That's the biggest misconception we have today in america. West Indies...speaks for itself...African Americans...speaks for itself. It's different, different history, different background...and heavily integrated mixed culture.It's so self-explanatory...that it makes no sense that it's even in question. You can't based things off of having "african ancestry". Those are just "looks", and what seems to be the case. You are nothing like an african, other than what you embrace. You aren't, and you'll never be, cause your clueless on what african really is, or how diverse it is. All africans aren't even alike, it's also multicultural. You can't clump ALL inhabitants of africa together, cause they're not the same, nor do they look the same. Dark skin, or coily hair doesn't mean they come from the same origins.Simply habitat based.Stop comparing.
@truthbetold7670
@truthbetold7670 7 жыл бұрын
sure you have strong african-like genetics, but your a decendant of multiple 90%+,80+, etc etc...do you get where I'm coming from?You can't base things off of looks....cause it's just "looks".The same, similar impure genetic pattern, repeated over and over again...sure you may be able to pass as an african...but you're not a product of pure africans...nor were you parents, grandparents, etc etc. That's my point, you shouldn't compare, cause genetics doesn't work that way.

Thank you for your positivity. I have sworn off stylists completely and can trim, cut, and straighten my own hair. I haven't been to a stylist since March 2016. I flatironed my hair at home last November and in March of this year. I'd never used an electric flatiron before and was pleasantly surprised. Not only at the results, but that my hair did not shed after shampooing like it did when I washed out my salon presses. I plan to flatiron (using a heat protectant) every 4 months or so and hope that won't be too much. We'll see what happens. So far, so good!

@cariocabassa

Yes indeed, Slavery was already in effect amongst Africans true... Actually tribes were beefing with each others prior to the Europeans arrival. Most of the time, i read that it was the powerful realms who sold other tribes to the Europeans in exchange of goods: artilery, weapons... That being said, there also were the tribes that fought hardly against it...but that's a human trait. Every races or ethnic groups have their warriors, traitors, cowards and heroes...it's not just a Black thing...don't get it twisted...look at the Jews and Palestinians we know that they both are Semetics...what about WWII? It's started with Euro-Caucasians people who live a few miles away from each others...who sometimes almost spoke the same language...you dig??? See what im sayin'...??

The true race classification system is way more complicated than that lol. It's actually about 20 but society these days narrows it down to 3 which I think I's pretty dumb but whatever; it's for simplicity I guess. Yes, they would all be a type of black/somewhere in between but East Africans, West, Central have some distinct features and Africans in general are the most genetically diverse humans so that kind of goes in line with what I was saying. The closest to pure is Scandinavians but even they have some other types of Caucasian/nonwhite genes somewhere.

You only see what she uploads and you don't know anything about 99 percent of black women so why don't you as a black man sort our yourself AND the way you MEN carry yourselves because youre even a bigger mess. Or since you seem to dislike and criticise your own women, go and focus on routing for and advancing someone else's daughter? Disgraceful son of someone
@nadie1mayascuz
@nadie1mayascuz 5 жыл бұрын
@@stopbystopbuy08 you just said children don't spend time with their fathers. Isnt that the problem. How did you manage to make absent fathers black women's fault and problem. You're so much better than us but you can't teach yourselves responsibility. And you want us to learn respectability when fathers are absent and the majority or males around us are as irresponsible as you have just stated yourself. Maybe stop having kids with women you don't respect and those women will find someone who respects her and takes responsibility for her kids. You just admitted the problem is your absence. Even when you find eloquent women you go pushing stereotypes on them and expectations you men don't even match. And you turn them into the same bitter women you can't stand. The ONLY people in The world blaming black women for the downfall of the black community is black men. Whenever those same black women you speak of marry white me There are no complaints and no issues. But everyone has issues with the absent black man, problematic, aggressive black male.

Ntu & E this is why words like "African" are nonsense terms sometimes because Africa is a huge continent with the most genetic diversity. Nationality/ethnicity does not always equal race.
