What are all of the dials and subdials on a watch for? This is a basic tutorial video, which will show you what all of the dials on a chronograph watch are for.
A chronograph watch is designed to measure time like a stopwatch, and the different dials on the watch face track different units of time. The big secondhand measure seconds, the minutes subdial counts the number of minutes, and the hour dial on the chronograph watch measures hours. You push the top button to start the chronometer, and push it again to stop it. To reset it, push the bottom button. This video is a very simple tutorial showing you how to use your chronometer watch as a stopwatch to measure time.

My aunt who I have not met for 20 plus years just gave me a luxury watch (she’s from the us) and honestly had no idea what these 3 circles were. Thank you so much! I don’t even own a watch like this so it’s a completely new experience. Edit: especially the two other buttons, like man I kept spamming them to figure out what moves but it got more confusing when the small circles started rewinding when I pressed something then it forwards when I press again.

OK so the top dial is for minutes, the one on the left for hours, I don’t really understand what the second hand as you call it does??

That one measures tenths of seconds.

never understood the seconds hand here.. a lot of watches have modes were that seconds hand takes over as a stopwatch. theres literally no way to swap them it just doesnt tick lol.

You kept saying chronometer... which accurately measures time. But you meant chronograph (stop watch thingy) I think anyway.

My son got it for around $100 six or seven years ago. You should be able to find one pretty easy on eBay. I don’t know if they still make this exact model. They definitely make a lot of similar ones for a similar price.
