I poke a little hole near the top so the filling can cool a bit so it doesn’t burn me. Since there’s not loads of liquid it doesn’t take too long! Soup buns are actually called 灌汤包 guàn tāng bāo, literally means soup filled buns. Xiao Long Bao can be juicy but won’t be as juicy as a guan tang bao and their fillings and buns are very different, involving different ingredients and process to make.

@@autotomie7074 they technically aren't the same thing. They are very similar in that they both have similar fillings and have soup in them but the main differences are things like size, preparation and ingredients used. 灌汤包 is bigger than 小笼包 because usually the skin of a 灌汤包 is not eaten. It is simply there to hold the filling and soup which is why (this is an assumption) op is saying that 灌汤包 are much "jucier" than 小笼包. The larger ones are also usually served individually rather than in multiples in the steamer baskets you use for 小笼包. As for ingredients, the skin of the 小笼包 is actually made with flour that contains leavening agents (that's what the recipe calls for at least) while the ones for 汤罐包 aren't which results in different textures and appearance of the final result of both as well.

It's not difficult to make! If you're not a fan of pork, which most of the recipes are, you can use powdered flavorless gelatin to get different soups rich enough. They're not hard to make at all! As someone who used to eat these every chance I got before going veg, be careful because some (most places) actually use gelatin to make the broth solid. A broth no matter how far you cook it down wouldn't be able to go from solid back to liquid if you remove all the water through the prep like she suggests. I've considered learning to make them myself at home and using agar agar or some kind of freezing method, but I've yet to be successful
@divx1001
@divx1001 2 жыл бұрын
@@BlueCLupei some places use gelatin because they're lazy not because it's impossible to do. Your second statement made non sense. If you make broth out of bones and ligaments, your broth will be very gelatinous and it's enough to cool it down to have it completely solidified. Look up Russian "kholodets" which is basically seasoned and chilled bone broth cut into solid cubes. Also, FYI the packed gelatin is literally the same gelatin that any animal bones produce, it's just in powder form.

I love love loveeeee soup dumplings my grandma got me and my mom (my dad isn’t very interested in them) three huge bags of soup dumplings and I ate them basically everyday, my fav method was to bite off the top, let it cool a lil, then pour in some soy sauce and then just eat the whole thing. Now I want soup dumplings🥲

I place the dumpling in a large serving spoon to catch all spilling soup. Then I bite the very top off first, sip some soup out, and enjoy. I continue to sip soup out as I chew on the dumpling. Zero soup is lost, and I can portion for optimal consumption. Heat escapes from the initial bite and prevents burning. Try it out!

I would sometimes eat it by biting the top to suck the soup and using a spoon to pour the vinegar inside the xiao long bao. If not, then I would do the other way of scooping up vinegar and eating it as a whole 😋

This is my favorite food! I don't know how Din Tai Fung makes them so that the soup don't spill when I use chopsticks to pick them out. In other places, I have to use my fingers to hold the very top part so that the dumpling won't break. And I dislike eating carrots with the dumpling too.(some places put a bit of carrots below the dumpling to prevent it from breaking )

I didn't get to try this until I went to S.Korea earlier this year (we don't really have soup dumplings in the UK) and there was a Din Tai Fung across from our hotel. The amount of warnings I had to give my parents so they didn't accidentally burn their throat 🤣 I miss the dumplings so much x

as a Chinese, I recommend biting some off and slurp up the yummy soup first and then eat the whole thing or you can just eat the whole thing. Your choice :’)
