They can’t put the Hockey Canada logo on Olympic jerseys as they are supposed to be representing the Canadian Olympic Committee. This came into place after the 2006 Olympics. That’s why all the teams in Vancouver did not have their hockey association logos.

The simplicity of the GB jersey is what makes it great. The sport is so beyond minor here though that nobody really ever gets to see it.

The world juniors was in Halifax each year with outstanding attendance. I live in Halifax. I miss the tournament in Halifax however its better for growing the game worldwide having the tournament in different countries each year. Because the tournament was so popular and no longer any professional team . Halifax Moosheads entered the QMJ. The Moosheads won the memorial cup when Nathan MacKinnon was captain.

The Canada Cup jersey was used multiple times. It is the best Canada jersey. I like them using the Canada Cup jersey for seniors and the Hockey Canada logo for juniors.

I didn’t think they were allowed to use the Hockey Canada logo anymore with the leaf/stick/puck hence the change. Can’t find a source for that info other than my fuzzy memory.

Only 40 comments...maybe this will actually get read, hahaha !!! So first... Appropriately ironic that Steve is sporting THE SINGLE BEST piece of Dangle Navy / SPDN merch to date. A few things to cover here...no particular order, BUT, let's start with the 1980 USA jersey. YES! EYE-CONIC! No...BUT...not the pic you showed. That was absolutely NOT the 1980 version -- wrong blue, the U & the A didn't have in-fill. But the real deal is completely in the team photo great unis, a combo of great moment / place in history together with the uncomplicated look. The Canada Cup, angled leaf, the biased all-time #1. PERIOD. I wore my 1976 Darryl Sittler model (the first time / team the design was worn) to the 2004 World Cup semi-final and got COUNTLESS complements and hand shakes walking to, through, and leaving the arena. CCCP. How could you have this dialogue and NOT mention "the enemy" of the 70s and 80s !? Again, simplistic and uncomplicated, but iconic. At some point, Nike screwed with everyone's uni in a way that just wasn't cool. Canada, USA, Sweden, the list goes on. Colors, stripes, design elements down the arm or around the waist that were just...well...off...wrong...attempts to be edgy that failed. You guys nailed it: classic moves people. (Montreal, Detroit, Chicago, the post-lockout / Bergeron-era Bruins). Stop f'g with this stuff because you *think* it'll sell...roll out something timeless, that resonates, and it will sell. Here's hoping you guys get back to the jersey convo more in the future. So much to chew on, here, especially when you start to get into international leagues, minor leagues, junior leagues, etc. Just to throw out a few for future conderation... The IHL, at it's zenith in the 90s, had some fun nicknames and unis to match. I'm sure Steve has put his eyes on an Alan Bester Orlando Solar Bears sweater at some point in time! And some love for Jokerit, which has made a couple cameo appearances on LFR or SDP. Among many that could be highlighted from the CHL is a Brandon Wheat Kings alternate jersey, I want to say when they hosted the Memorial Cup (maybe fact check with Darren Millard, ha!), that featured a poppy as the primary crest. Finally: Charlestown Chiefs. Say what you want about the movie...the jersey is CLASSIC. Again...I'm biased...my high school (in Niagara), at the time, had Chiefs as its nickname and, no joke, the Slapshot jerseys were actually our high school team's jersey! But two friends of mine and I were the Hanson Brothers for Halloween one year, when I lived in Chicago, and the response we got, walking down streets, bar hopping was: OFF. THE. CHARTS. Simple, perhaps, but part of culture in a way that transcends hockey. (We didn't pay for a drink that night & won two costume contests, even beating a group of scantily clad women and an absolutely perfect Hellraiser Pinhead !!!)

No Adam, the Olympic committee prohibited teams from using sports federation's own logos on their jerseys...the admittedly fantastic player in the red and back leaf technically falls under this rule. So it wasn't team Canada choosing to redesign things per se. Is the rule stupid? Yes. Should team Canada just have stuck to say the 2010 leaf? Yeah probably.

To me…. My favorite jerseys are simple to convey power to the point of being elemental in nature. I love the original 6 jerseys. Logos which serve as elemental symbols…. You can see outlines without color and know, what team is what. Those are the great jerseys. You start adding in little details, and complicated blurs of animals or mascots, and integrated words…. and you lose what makes them great. Also, so tired of the overuse of black.
