I recently patterned Carlson extended extra full chokes in my 30” beretta 694 sporting gun and I was surprised at the pattern from 40 yards, I thought it would be a lot tighter but it was at least 2 feet across, I was shooting #9 - 11/8 ounce shot. For skeet obviously it’s not good, but on trap I was crushing everything, especially if I was slow or needed an extra 1/2 second to get a bead on a cross flyer it did even better cause at that point the pattern was still the perfect size, I think people should try full or extra full at least once, I think they’d be surprised

Nice video. I usually go for 1/4 & 1/2 but have messed about with 3/4 & Full for a challenge. I just shoot on a normal clay range but it is nice to be informed on chokes now and then as I have x5 chokes with my two guns and a fixed choke side by side (Spanish) which is probably 1/4 & 1/2 but not checked as yet. Anyway, great vid guys. Keep up the good work!

I've heard where an English shooter went into completion skeet with the wrong chokes. He shot 1/4& 3/4 by accident and a won.👍

My dear friend, first thanks for the video. However, in the USA we do use IM and Full alot in Trap shooting whether 16 yards or all the way to 27 yards handicap. Also the Extra Full is the way to hunt Turkeys and guarantee a good lead cluster in the Head and save the breast meat from being torn away.

Remington Rem chokes are approved for steel shot up to full. So Müller are not the only ones doing that.

A very informative video for someone new into choke tubes. Pretty much gives all the information a new shooter needs regarding choke selection, well done George. Just a point about the choke gauge you mentioned, it will only tell you the difference between chokes, not the actual restriction which is determined by the internal dimension of the barrel in relation to the restriction at the muzzle. Those Muller chokes really look the business.

I had a Remington sp514 auto with a full set of chokes up to super full and all were steel shot proof so not only muller also kicks and Carlson make full steel proof chokes

As a beginner with an O/U double barrel 12 gauge, I should use skeet, improved cylinder, and light modified? The tightest that would be used would be modified for trap?

i have a Fabarm and i always shoot Full choke and steel shot... also have a beretta semi auto and also use full choke on that.. always shooting 36gr mags #3 shot with both... beautiful patterns on water and very long range shots on goose and ducks..

I have the XLR5 Waterfowler. Fantastic gun for ducks and sporting clays. And like you said, no problem with steel in any choke.

Excellent video! I own a Beretta 686 Sporting adjustable and I shoot skeet with steel. Gamebore 7 24g. I've been told that never exceed 1/2 choke using steel. Is then 1/2 choke optimal for the upper boar and 1/4 for the lower bore?

I shoot skeet with steel (Gamebore, 9 24g) I use Cyl and Cyl choke because steel patterns tighter than lead - using Skeet and skeet with it is like using IC/IC and thus is to tight. You should do a video on steel pattern and how tight it is for the shot compared to lead.

some of the effect is as much wad as the shot material. In the US even our lead is usually in a full plastic cup wad. You never see fiber wad even in game load.

@@pbgd3 Nearly all our game loads are fiber, with exception of Gamebore quad seal, which is a bio degradable seal, but all our steel shot is naturally plastic wad (for now)

@@bumblesquatt correct I just find that an interesting part of the narrative. As someone from the states who hand loads I like to play with patterns and one of the main things I notice is since we shoot lead in full wads usually the difference between say a game load or a trap.load or a skeet load is simply wads
