Great teams and I can agree with them all. Funny thing is on my first run I did all the boys going full dark paths. You do not know how many healing items I needed. Gives me a better way to replay the story with pairs. I was unaware of the full combos. Thanks for the help either way!

My 5 year old daughter beat this game on hard with Angela (Magus), Hawkeye (Nightblade), Kevin (Fatal fist). Turns out dead enemies don't fight back or debuff, and you don't need that much healing as enemies can't hurt you.

My favorite team from back then and now and forever: Kevin, Angela, Hawkeye

On SNES I always used angela (light>light for AoE), riesz (light>dark for buffs), and hawkeye (dark>light for debuffs). Still works like a charm. I've had no problems on hard so far and I'm about to do the second class change. ^^ Update: 2nd class change done, 2 benevodons dead, and holy shit is the team still OP as ever. Definitely deserves a honorable mention if not a spot on this list. ^^ Update 2: Finished post game content. Things just got more ridiculous the further in I got. The party was downright broken and a real blast to play. Angela as the party's anchor; spamming lucent beam+ with damage amplifying skills, crit chance boosting skills and crit damage multiplier boosting skills. Backed up by a buffer and debuffer who also function as secondary meatshields to keep aggro off angela (enigma skill also helps with this). The final story boss could barely get his theme song started before he died. And don't even get me started on anise. Bitch died in seconds. Both phases took like 50 seconds combined. Even black rabite was easy, though being immune to my lucent beam he did take a bit longer. Hard felt like normal, easy and then beginner the more I progressed through the game.

I physically can't play a character named Kevin. I tried but It just doesn't work.

My first run through was Duran, Angela, and Charlotte. It was rough for me at the beginning until the first Class change. Its funny that you mentioned Hawkeye, Riez, and Duran because I am going to play my second run with them tonight XD

my first was duran (dmg), reisz (first dmg then support with some dmg) and charlotte (healing + magic dmg with summon) my new game + are the ones i haven't done in first playthrough, but srsly, you can do anyone in new game + with that ridiculous 300% exp boost, so easy even on hard mode

In the SNES version, my most successful combo was Kevin(death hand), Reisz(Star Lancer), and Charlotte(Necromancer) Kevin has 1 job, and 1 job only, and that's hitting things hard. Reisz is primarily for buffs Charlotte is good for heals, and the reason I no Necromancer is for Black Curse. When fighting a boss, if black curse is on them, and you have all your star lancer buffs up, the fight becomes a joke.

Idk, I think Hawkeye, Reisz, and Kevin is one of the best comps.

This is a very beginner level team composition video. For optimized play, it's missing a substantial truth to the game: the A.I. sucks at offense in the game for all characters played except Angela. Maybe it could be half decent as Hawkeye caster. If the A.I. controls a melee character, it is going to be a liability in tough battles, and even in easy enough battles it doesn't actually unleash close to full potential in terms of offense -- essentially hitting a button maybe only half of the time it should. A.I. is horrible at Reisz as it will cast useless stat up and stat downs, and when it gets a summon from 3rd job, it'll relentless cast those even if the summon is weak or useless in the current battle. This means a real priority for high damage output pretty much requires Angela in your party because she's always at least "good" DPS if not the best; a melee fighter that you control (Kevin == Duran, Hawkeye/Reisz), and a support character you don't lose much by not controlling and ideally has passives party wide chain abilities, or sharable chain abilities that make your party stronger. When you factor in the class changes in the game, the strongest potential for end game scenario (3rd job skills and beyond) falls to: Pretty much the best composition for playing 995% of min/max without micromanaging every spell cast for every character is always going to be: * Player controlled Kevin or Duran (Fatal Fist, Edelfrei) * Charlotte in dark path for Dark Curse debuff and chain ability debuff passives. Though her light path is still great for elemental sabers (for Kevin) and elemental damage buffs for Angela; elemental sabers are easily accessed via items. * Angela -- Rune Master is the only 3rd job of Angela's you need to be careful in picking because some end game dungeons have too many elemental immune monsters she cannot touch. All of her other jobs have very high damage no-element/neutral spells. Consider what can come from pretty cheap, or not too difficult to find, items in the game versus what cannot. Stat up items are the cheapest and easiest buy as soon as the night market city is available, so Reisz as a character is pretty much always optional as items replace her contribution except for wearing some revealing outfits. Stat downs are a bit more rare, but Hawkeye still isn't that great of a pick up as his damage output is fairly low and his stat downs are still just basic. Charlotte people mistake for being "just a healer" but in reality, her chain abilities are some of the strongest in the game and are either equippable by others, or apply to the entire party -- i.e. YOU the player without taking up a slot on your main character and further, the application of lets say "Weak Point All II" is not lost because the A.I. is too stupid to run up to and wail on a stunned boss. So while Edelfrei Duran has elemental sabers and chain ability buffs to saber damage, if you equip him with that though, you aren't able to equip all of the Edelfrei +Duelist abilities that make Duran the possibly strongest DPS in the game: critical hits, offensive stance, and rage. Importantly, set Angela's A.I. to cast spells with full aggression. Instructing her to be defensive or manage mana is a joke. AI isn't good at it still, and all it does is cause them to waste time when a boss or enemies are fully vulnerable.

This is a load of nonsense. The maker of this video obviously doesn't know that much about the game at all. He might have some good ideas which go in the right direction, but has no deeper understanding of the ins and outs of the game's classes whatsoever. Riesz fits extremely well with Kevin and Charlotte because Kevin massively benefits from getting Charlottes Saber magic AND Riesz's status buffs. Kevin can lower enemies defense by critting them, so buffing him up AND giving him access to elemental damage makes him a complete powerhouse and a perfect focus character to play as. Nothing much to say here, you really cannot go wrong with this team. Let Kevin go Fatal Fist for maximum damage output, Riesz goes Starlancer for group-wide buffs, and Charlotte goes Sage for the group-wide elemental Sabers. You really cannot screw this party up other than choosing the wrong classes. This here is top-notch synergy. Kevin is a super powerhouse werewolf who is extremely good at receiving buffs and support, but is not so big at giving it to others (with the exception of his Warrior Monk class). Giving Kevin two supporters buffing him up in different ways makes his potential go through the roof! If you're good at the game and know what you're doing, You can replace Sage Charlotte with Edelfrei Duran because he has the extremely useful Leaf and Moon sabers and brings much more physical damage to the party. He just doesn't heal, like Charlotte does, so you better gear up on healing items and get a life supply of Poto Oils. Duran and Angela are kinda wacky and do NOT really fit together in a team. Yes, they are linked in their storyline but their synergy as characters is extremely limited. So since that party has problems to deal with, i suggest going the safe route and giving them a healer for some stability. No, not Charlotte, just give them a Warrior Monk Kevin who can also add some much needed physical damage to Durans Sabers. Yes, Kevin and Duran have an excellent synergy! To be precise: Dark side Duran and any class of Kevin - it just works. Also, Angela IS A SUPER DUPER DPS nuker character cause as long as you feed her MP, she can pump out a ton of damage in a very short amount of time! BUT she is hella squishy and cannot really put out much physical damage at all, so i highly suggest if you have Angela in your party, do NOT play as Duran or something, but take control of Angela instead and focus on her. She's a lot more manageable if you don't let the AI screw up her positioning and casting spells yourself is fun! Let the AI control the physical damage dealers and give Angela specific the Leaf saber which lets her conveniently leech MP for herself. Both Edelfrei Duran and Warrior Monk Kevin can provide Leaf saber. You can pick one of them or even both. It doesn't matter much. Hawkeye as Ninja Master is a strong debuffer and is generally a jack-of-all-trades who brings decent damage in all areas, physical and magical. Also, his Ninjutsus truly target every enemy in the battle, no matter their position, much like Angelas multi-target spells USED to work in the original game. (they just had to nerf her, hahah) Alternatively, Hawks Rogue class can be a strong nuker class with huge damage potential, as long as he has MP to spare, similar to Angela, except he is a bit stronger in close combat and takes more hits. Riesz again, brings the Buffs as Starlancer. Sorry to say, but her Starlancer class is so good, there really isn't much reason to play any other class as Riesz, unless you want a different flavor and are just playing for fun and not effectivity. Buffing your party up is usually more valuable than debuffing enemies. And besides, for debuffing you most likely already have Hawkeye. If you really wanna be different here, pick Fenrir Knight Riesz and combine her with Rogue Hawkeye. But expect less overall performance than Ninja Master + Starlancer. So, whatever path you take here, you may ask what could compliment this party? Well, i'd say either Kevin to bring the knuckle sandwich or Angela to wreck things with magic, but since we're not focusing on either of them in a Hawkeye Riesz story playthrough, the only truly viable option of those is again Warrior Monk Kevin. He brings the Knuckle sandwich, provides some very useful heals since neither Hawk nor Riesz are particularly tanky, and the ever so useful Leaf Saber to keep the mana flowing. Alternatively, Hawkeye and Riesz could both also make use of a Sage Charlotte, if you'd rather have a dedicated healer in your party for the first half of the game, but Warrior Monk Kevin definitely brings much more "convincing arguments" to the table, if you know what i mean. ;D So, in general you see, you're sleeping hardcore on Warrior Monk Kevin. He may not seem like much and he does certainly not have an overloaded kit of supporting spells, like some other classes do, but what he does provide, is just extremely solid and has amazing synergies. Plus, it may be his healer class, but it's still Kevin and that means he makes monsters his personal punching bags. Watching Kevin doing his favourite sport is like watching someone shooting birds with a shotgun. There is no competition. Never was and never will be. :D Seriously, if you compare a Dark side Duran and a Warrior Monk Kevin, if you exclude the elemental Sabers for exploiting weaknesses, they are pretty much equal in Physical damage output, IF NOT BETTER! I'm currently playing as Edelfrei Duran as focus character with a Warrior Monk Kevin and i often find myself switching to Kevin not just to unleash his class strike, but to stay there and deal some knuckle sandwiches. Thats how strong Kevin is. His dark classes, especially Fatal Fist, wreck even harder than that. But besides Fatal Fist and Warrior Monk, Kevins other two classes just aren't really that great. Divine Fist does not bring the full party heal and is lackluster in damage output compared to Fatal Fist and Enlightened, while cool in theory with the HP sucking Moon Saber just suffers greatly from not getting access to Attack Saber 2, to enhance his damage output, while Fatal Fist has superior physical attack power AND gets a unique buff to critical hits, which synergizes perfectly with Broken Lines 2 and 3 to get a realiable defense debuff on anyone that he touches. I just remember the good old times of the original Seiken Densetsu 3 game, where Kevin and Hawkeye actually did double hits on all their attacks while everyone else had one hit before they had to sit through the attack cooldown. (Which makes sense since Kevin uses two fists + kicks, and Hawkeye has two daggers while everyone else has one weapon to strike with.) Kevin was even more broken and a complete badass mfker there. I dunno who reads through all of that, but i thought i'd just share my personal experiences and opinions on the great remake Trials of Mana and its wonderful original, Seiken Densetsu 3. Trust my judgement, i've played through these games A LOT. And while the Remake is considerably easier than the original, running a full-party healer in the second half of the game might still be worthwhile to conserve some money thats better spent on equipment and just simply to have unlimited access to full heals. Because there is a limit to how many items you can use in a battle. But a full party healer (with Leaf saber) can ALWAYS heal, no matter what. And Warrior Monk Kevin is still a great physical damage dealer, so not a huge loss in damage at all. But if you're fine just buying and using a ton of Poto Oils, then go for it. Especially Edelfrei Duran is a very valuable teammember in a no-healer-maximum-damage party. He can cast Leaf Saber to not run out on MP and he can cast Moon Saber to heal anyone who keeps hitting the enemies with physical attacks anyway. So if you're looking for THE best dps party, a Magus Angela, Edelfrei Duran and Starlancer Riesz group is the best to nuke enemies with spells away. Oh and by the way, Magus is Angelas top notch class and unbeaten in damage numbers, but it also eats away at her own and the whole parties HP. So you better have LOTS of healing items to spare or you're gonna be in trouble real soon! But if you're like me and like physical attacks more than constantly casting spells, and overall party stability, simply replace Angela with Fatal Fist Kevin. He utilizes all of Durans Sabers much better than Angela benefits from Leaf Saber MP suck alone and as i stated before, he is a complete beast with Buffs, easily the second most powerful DPS focus character. If you wanna make Magus Angela somewhat more stable and give her proper backup, give her Starlancer Riesz and - guess who? Warrior Monk Kevin as backup. Warrior Monk equals out any weakness that Magus Angela has: Physical Damage, the HP cost of her spells by healing (infinitely) and her MP cost by providing Leaf Saber. Riesz makes the party huge with buffs. You don't REALLY need Durans Sabers, since you already cover almost every element with your spells. This party does make a little bit less overall damage, but it's a much more playable and enjoyable party with less risky gameplay. I told you - Angela and Duran have a terribly bad synergy, despite being top candidates for a max damage party.

Great ideas, i just don't agree with this completely. You always need someone who can cast healing spells. Riese doesn't know any healing spells, and as Duran as your main your better off going dark than light because of the saber magic he gets. So my first team comp will be Duran (main) as the tank, Angela (first companion) as the spellcaster, Charlotte(second companion) as the healer. The main reason why i chose this as my first team is because of how similar it feels to the team of boy, girl, and sprite from Secret of Mana. Since Kevin and Charlotte share a story, Charlotte is the first character you should meet, not the second. Plus, you really don't have any major spell caster, which in my books is a no-no, so my third team comp would be Kevin (main) as the tank, Charlotte (first companion) as the healer, and Riese (second companion) as the spellcaster I truthfully think Hawkeye's start is stronger than Riese, which means more chance to gain experience points and be at a higher level, so i think my second team comp would be Hawkeye(main) as the tank, Riese(first companion) as the spellcaster, and Duran(second companion) as the healer. One of my key considerations is always having one character of the three types: Tank, Spellcaster, and Healer. Tank to really get in there and lay waste to enemies drawing attention away from the others, spellcaster for big aoe spells as well as debuffs, and a healer for keeping the party healthy and providing buffs to the group.
