A Discussion around the Best Watches Released in 2023. Enjoy my take on what I think were some of the best refreshed / redesigned models of the year. 2023 has not been the most exciting year for releases, probably because they have been planned a year or two in advance and we all know what happened a few years ago. But this has also created opportunity for brands to step up and create a wide range of different pieces. The ones that stole the show were not the most highly priced and didn't come from brands that we expected.

Hello, and thanks for this vid. It's rather impossible to answer your question ... So let me try this way : About GMT, of course the Patek Calatrava 24H-Display Travel Time with "petite seconde". About dress watches, the Tank Normale with integrated metal bracelet. About skeleton, the Reverso Skeleton chronograph. About chronos, the Tentagraph from Seiko AND the Tag Heuer Carrera Glassbox. About divers, of course the Longines Legend Diver 39 mm. Thanks again fort this vid. One side note if I may : the Louis Vuitton Tambour, it's like the Chanel J12 has been, a good and high quality creation from a famous luxury fashion brand, but nothing more for now.

I really like the Nivada Grenchen F77 but only if it was made bigger. I'm hard to please - there's always something. I really hope that Omega can get their act together next year, but then again with their run-away prices, it probably no-longer matters at this point.

When you look back, it’s actually amazing to see them all. You’ve recapped brilliantly and for me personally, the best release has to be the Jaeger Le Coultre Reverso chronograph. Thanks for another great year of videos! Perfect way to finish the year off. My stand out for this year were the Tudors. I feel the brand is coming up with the most interesting designs coupled with incredible quality and affordability. I know the designs aren’t ground breaking but there is something really exciting at every new launch. And there is something very satisfying about wearing a watch you never have to adjust they are that precise. The other stand out is the LV Tambour. I think it looks amazing and the team have put in alot of thought into that watch. I never thought I’d like an LV but this one is special. And finally the Tag Glassbox.

A brilliant compilation of this year’s releases here boet. I love loads of them. The Tag Heuer Skipper is a big favourite but, there are so many others too. Honourable mentions you didn’t include are the UN Freak which won the ‘Iconic’ prize at this year’s GPHG awards. The novel Seiko Metronome Watch which as a fellow musician must put a smile on your face. Another Watch I tried on at a Watch Show was the STREHLER ‘Sirna’ Watch from Andreas Strehlers new sub brand as well as Simon Brette’s Chronometre Artisans. What a pleasure to try on that was! Brilliant video here as I said my friend. You must have been at the grind stone for ages producing this! ✊

off track side note: I’ve noticed this before but this video makes it obvious; Glashutte does not know how to film and showcase their watches. They don’t show proper watch detail and “wear appeal”, pretentious cliche scenery and tacky ad narratives, uncharacterized of-the-shelf models gazing intensely at the horizon. They should get a marketing director who likes watches or pitch for a new creative agency. Just saying.

Great video. Out of all of what you listed, the LLD in 39mm was a late, but, surprisingly so good release I had the pleasure to try in person on the BOR bracelet almost a month ahead of its official release. And, it has stood in my mind ever since. Seriously considering one. But, I do have 1 or 2 watches that may take priority before I make the 39LLD officially in my collection. It felt so comfortable on the wrist and the proportions were perfect for my 7" wrist. And, I really like the tone of blue they used on the blue version. Both crown actions were really refined feeling and the overall tactile feeling of a watch on the wrist, in the hands, and at my fingertips goes along way to feeling like such a quality watch Oh! And, I really do like the TAG Heuer Carrera Glass box models, too. The odd date at the 12 reverse panda version is still my favorite of what they've released in that updated design range. However, I might be slightly attracted to one of their older Carrera designs a tad more. Interesting that perhaps the best purchase of 2023, at least for me, may have been from about 2 years before, if not also about 5 to 30 years prior.

Freaking love their Chrono's... and the Ocean 2000 of course ;)

Great video and summary Value for money probably the 12. It’s a very good watch Nicest perhaps the Reverso chrono like you said A very surprising but lovely little watch was that rectangular Alpina. What a little beauty. Brand of the year possibly Longines. Didn’t really put a foot wrong with excellent releases all round. High horology maybe that tambour. Really beautiful watch and I like that lug less design Cheers

Audemars Piguet Offshore "Beast" Ceramic is a very cool chrono/sport watch! A Lange & Sohne Odysseus Chronograph is just gorgeous a home run! I am NOT a Rolex fan but I do like the 1908 design language very much. Excellent Seiko pick!!! That Glashutte is definetly nice! The Big Eye ❤ Louis Vuitton Tambour is gorgeous! Porsche Design Utility 1 Chronograph is a great pick! Seiko Marinemaster is a home run for sure 😎 Longines Legend Diver 39 is their best release of the year imho. Seiko Speedtimer honorably mentioned 😁 My favorite releases this year were the Draken Zulu Aoraki field watch and the Seiko SSK009 GMT both of which I purchased but you had an awesome list man GREAT JOB

I like the H08. If I designed a watch, this would have been it. I bought it on the orange rubber strap and the titanium bracelet. I’m getting the blue fabric strap. It feels like a modern version of Cartier Santos BUT no scratches. The watch case curves around your wrist = so comfortable. The titanium sunray brushed bezel, the DLC black case, very thin, very light, display back with in house movement… and stealth. People who know, know. Regular people think it’s an Apple Watch. All the best to u watch fans!

Without doubt the new 'Bright Black' in white gold on Oysterflex is set to become a classic - AMAZING and timeless! A Le Mans for day-to-day use with incredible fluency throughout. I was fortunate enough to try one and blown away. Not sure how Rolex keep doing things that are so subtle, yet evolve in a congruent and congnative manner.

I can’t wait for next year when Rolex releases the same watch, but 1mm larger or smaller and we’ll all lose our minds. Maybe next year the Explorer will be 39mm! Part of the fun is also not being able to get one and then they change the size 1 or 2mm again and if you want that other size, you have to pay a +30% markup on the secondary market. Joy!

Great choices here, I purchased over 12 watches from two of my favorite AD in 2023. first I tried on the IWC Inginieur and I feel it's not worth 13K or more for the Ti. I purchased the Tudor BB54, Tudor P39, Seiko SJE093, Rolex Sub Kermit 126619LV anniversary, Longines LD39 both dials on BOR, Breitling AVI 765 B09 1964 LTD 164 pieces with ADLC bezel, Tag Heuer Glassbox reverse panda which I love all 2023 releases, in addition Glashutte SeaQ 39mm rosegold case, Navitimer 24HR dial Scott Carpenter platinum bezel, Rolex Sub 124060 ND, Rolex Explorer 2 126570 Polar and black dials and finally the Seiko slim Turtle. I love the Legend Diver and 62Mas recreation and yeah I went nuts this year.

The Reverso is definitely the standout, though (unusually) i prefer the gold and brown colourway to the steel. If only it wasn't unwearably big for my wrist! The runner up for me is one you didn't mention: the Ming 37.08 Sand, with possibly the most beautiful dial I've ever seen.

My pic would be the JLC Chronograph, the Duoface allows it to fly under the radar in time telling mode, flip it and you have a timing tool, I love it. The engineering involved in making this is epic. One release that possibly fell off the table would be the reduced size Longines Spirit COSC certified now available in 37mm with the date finally at 6.

Solid vid as always! Long vid you say? I think most of us don't mind, and want even longer! lol Anyway, for me, this year, it felt like the rise of "fashion brand" watches esp Cartier obv, but even from Hermes, like, they have no "restrictions" neither from within nor collectors unlike many other watch brands, and that made that wacky model possible, and I'm loving it, esp that numeral font and number 8! And somehow made a model that feels both retro futuristic and modern at the same time with some voodoo magic. LV feels kinda... bland imo so far. And you can't mention Ploprof man, that's cheating XDDDDD that model is so weird that everyone hates it and loves it at the same time, a hideous monster that is loved by everyone, a bit like Shrek if you will. As soon as Ploprof enters, it's "game over man, game over.gif" all over the place XDDDD Oh also, is it just me or is Patek is losing their way now? Their designs don't feel Patek to me any longer...
@ID-Guy
@ID-Guy 6 ай бұрын
Does seem like the fashion brands had a moment, right? Cartier, LV etc. Some gorgeous pieces... AND I had to give the PloProf love. I've been eager to see these pieces given a bit of a lift, but crazy how we have that love-hate for them 😆 Patek, I didn't include their masterpieces (which were unreal) but their 5244 I think it was? 5422? With all the arabics on the dial... that was a killer 🔥

@@ID-Guy ofc you had to, I mean I would love to wear a ploprof if my wrist could support it, but when I tried one, it felt like a Ben 10 watch lol, that thing is humongous! But man it's so unique, I dare say one of the most unique watch out there. Also regarding patek, before they had this old money vibe to them, but now, they are trying to market themselves to tiktokers and influencers, marketing to those new rich crowd.

As an alternative to the Glassbox I’d take a look at its ‘in-house’ sister….the Autavia Flyback. Same price-ish, COSC movement in the 02 rather than the TH20, discreet date and , IMHO, better wrist presence. Just a thought , though I do recognise it’s not a ‘23 release 🙂.

I own three with H02 Carrera and the new Glassbox Carrera, the TH20 is an upgrade as many are complaining that the H02 is having reset to zero issues on their Carrera 60TH anniversary, so TH20 solves a few issues especially the "minute" register getting stuck. Just a heads up and I do own the 60th.

Great roundup and thanks for a year's fine content, fantastic stuff bru! I agree, re '23: underwhelming. Brands struggled with production and pandemic aftermath to play it safe: they gave us less, for more. Huge, unsustainable price rises into a falling market in return for a notable lack of imagination and zero creative direction. My pick for the year was TAG's Glassbox, but Longines' Legend Diver was a very fine piece of refinement from a brand that tends to disposable design. Omega were notably poor, but Swatch were focused on Longines taking the fight to Tudor and on Blancpain doing... err not quite sure what! A missed opportunity. So a big 'could do better' for most brands. Let's hope for more in '24 (for less!).

Sums up the timeline perfectly, these were probably planned 2020 - 21 and they reflect what those years were like. Also the prices... I'm going to prep a video in a few weeks about this subject. Some really, really odd stuff... like Omega and Breitling not bringing much to the table AND I reckon next year will be similar for all brands... only by 2025 will we start seeing some stellar things but by then they'll be unobtainably expensive? 😆
@jameshoward9700
@jameshoward9700 6 ай бұрын
That will be so interesting - looking forward to your take. I think the absolute eye-gouging dog-fight between Omega/Rolex get's too little attention: Rolex has been stung by a resurgent Omega undercutting them in the last 10 years, so re-introduced Tudor to undercut Omega and protect the Crown. Swatch has responded by undercutting Tudor with Longines and this bun-fight is distracting both brands (though we're seeing much better Longines and Tudor). All brands index their pricing to Rolex - their executives' ego determining how they value their product relatively. Richemont with relatively low volume brands has sought the most egregious and unjustified re-positioning (as well as moving to a boutique model). They are going to hurt in '24... @@ID-Guy
