An alert viewer and commentator pointed out a subtle discrepancy in how I turned Osprey's 'En Garde!' from a bluffing game into a solo game. Let me show you why how you draw beads from a bag matters.

I like the fuzzy feathers in their hats.

In the video you introduced En Garde for solo play, I thought you were planning to choose for one side and randomize the other. So the skewing never occurred to me.

In real fights if someone become defensive gives the opportunity to the other combatant to be more aggressive. So maybe the way the rules are written are ok giving a more realistic represantation of a duel.

Yeah, 3 years late here but my suggestion would be to roll a dice pool. Odd defend, even attack. Or maybe you can give them a personality, cautious: attack on a 5+ otherwise defend, balanced: attack on a 4+ otherwise defend, aggressive: attack on a 2+ otherwise defend. Adjust accordingly.

Why not simply roll a die and give an attack chip/gem for an odd and a defense chip/gem for an even roll? The die will keep the odds 50/50 every time, right?

I’m using the same method with even/odd dice rolls! Working quite well

Beach looks great - they are 'feeding' the fields around here so it stinks worse than seaweed rotting! Like the two bags idea the best that way you can load the results if your story needs one side to be fighting a defensive battle you just add a few more defence markers or remove a few attack ones.
