What Are The World’s Longest Narrowbody Flights?

Around the world, widebody aircraft are typically used for long-haul flights. However, this is not always the case. While not often used for long-haul flights, narrowbody aircraft can travel quite a distance. Simple Flying decided to investigate.

DC-8 is no longer in pax service. Don't know if Cubana or Air Koryo still fly their IL-62s - they could travel quite far too.

@@KasabianFan44 well Dubai is an emirate in the UAE. The term "country" is not tightly defined. England is a country in the UK, which is a country. In the US, individual states used be considered as separate countries in a union, but that changed over time. The same might change with the EU over time. So the UAE issues passports and any citizen can live and work in any emirate, so from that perspective it looks like UAE is the country. From the perspective of money and power, each emirate looks like its own country. The real answer? We're sort of arguing semantics - what makes a "country"?

@@oliversissonphone6143 England is a country in the Island of Great Britain along with Wales and Scotland the UK is short for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the UK is a nation not a country. I know it's confusing only people who went to school in the UK and happened to be listening that day understand it. I'm English by birth and grew up there.. Cheers mate 🇬🇧

Flying 4000 nautical miles was normal in the DC8, Super VC10 and B707-320B. It’s worth noting the B707 had the same cross section as the B737. Economy class in those days had a little more seat pitch.

You are correct that those old planes did it, however they had four engines and more wing-surface, especially the DC-8, that was a fast beast!

I have routinely done a flight between Portland, OR and Washington-Dulles, on the United A320. That was in the mid to late 2000s, however, and I believe UA now uses a 737-8. On the way home from DC, the headwinds caused the flight to be up to 6 and a half hours. But! In 2017 I did a UA 757-200 route from Manchester to Newark. That was nearly 8 hours.

In Labour day weekend of 1983 I took a nonstop flight from London Gatwick to Vancouver on a 707; the last time I ever rode in a 707. Keep in mind: It had four engines so it was in compliance with the ETOP rules.

From Zurich, there is a very long A320CEO flight to Sal, Cape Verde operated by Edelweiss Airline. It takes 6 hours and 30 minutes at 4750kms. Its a long haul flight on a short-middle haul aircraft ;)

A good example of a long narrow body flight could be the United islands hopper operated with 737s, From the Hawaii all the way to Guam, with several stops on the various atols of Marshall and Micronesia : Honolulu - Majuro - Kwajalein - Kosrae - Pohnpei - Chuuk and finally Guam, with an impressive total of over 6,000 kilometers !

Oman Air flies 737-800 from Dar-es-Salaam to Muscat. The flight time is roughly 6 hours. I had flown on it. There's one stop at Zanzibar

My first international flight was the Pune to Bucharest flight which continued on to frankfurt. I was surprised to see a B737 being used on that route.

The Privatair 737-700s used on that route were all business-class, so they seated only 60-something people. With that relatively low weight the range increased massively. They were also used for a direct Frankfurt-New York flight. When Privatair went bust they used a bog standard A319 on the Frankfurt-Pune route with a fuel-stop in Azerbaijan. Needless to say that went down with their business customers like a fart in an elevator.

I took a 6 hours flight from Abu Dhabi to Belgrade with Etihad and they used A320 (EY71). That was the longest flight i’ve ever took with narrow body aircraft 😂

I flew on a Norwegian 737-800 from New York Stewart to Edinburgh in 2018, that's got to be one of the longest!? Heading west apparently it had to run at less than full capacity but no such issues heading east because of the tailwinds. It should have been a Max but these were delayed so it was just an 800. I'm pretty sure this will be the only time in my life that I will have crossed the Atlantic for £63 anyway, perhaps there should be a video for cheapest long distance flight on a narrowbody!

The longest 737 MAX flight's route (2:52) was not mentioned to my knowledge. I believe this route was BSB-CUN, not 100% sure on that though.

There was briefly a slightly longer flight from ORD to Bend, Oregon. Madison also had a slightly shorter E175 flight to LAX. All this was before the pandemic, of course. If travel picks back up in a year or two, the flights will probably come back as well.

We flew a North American 757 military charter from a base in Saudi Arabia to a base in Oklahoma. We flew Saudi to Rome (refuel only couldn't get off), Rome to Shannon, Shannon to JFK (JFK blocked an entire terminal for us, and gave us priority takeoff only after Concorde). Finally JFK to Oklahoma. Same Aircraft same seats.

3:24 Wait -- FIVE HOURS from Madison to San Francisco?! It really shouldn't be more than 4 hours 10 minutes westbound even with winter winds. Five hours on that route just doesn't add up.

As far as my knowledge goes, planes like an A320 have a faster cruising speed than small jets like embrarer so it takes less times to cover a particular distance, a 40min flight on A321 on a particular route takes an ATR plane one hour. I could be completely wrong tho

All Nippon airways until 2019 used to operate Tokyo Narita to Mumbai using their 737 - 700 BBJ in all Business Class. As demand grew they replaced it with the 787. Similarly SAS used to fly Copenhagen to Boston using the 737 - 700 BBJ. I think even Swiss (Prvatair) used to operate a transatlantic flight with an Airbus 319. In 2014 Qatar airways used to operate Doha to London Heathrow using an Airbus 319 in all Business Class to Doha to Heathrow.

That’s out of range for both the A321neo and A321LR and Hawaiian only has the base A321neo to begin with. Only the A321XLR could (barely) do it.

The route is Brasilia-Orlando, operated by the Brazilian carrier Gol Linhas Aéreas. After the MAX grounding, the flight now has a refueling stop in Punta Cana, and its temporarily operated with a 737-800. Tough flight...

Omg Air Canada, Canadaire 550 ORD-YVR. Nearly 5 hours. I wanted to slit my wrists but I could tell our single flight attendant was already using the razor blade. I have a Delta 757 BOS-LAX flight. At least I’ll be in DeltaOne for that.

What is the fascination with Porto-Newark? It really isn’t that far in terms of distance, the westbound trip is decent endurance due to the prevailing wind, but JFK-City is further and Manila-Sydney beats it by over 500 miles.

Guys..... you don't do 3300 nm in 8 hours on a turbojet propulsed jet. This is not a turbo prop. You do it in 6-7 hours.

You are wrong. In 2017 I flew in an extended range Boeing 757(Single Aisle) on United Airlines from EWR (Newark, NJ) to Tel-Aviv, Israel (10 hour flight), and then the return flight (also a 757) was nearly 12 hours. Those 12 hours were the longest in my life, as I was crammed in a super packed flight with dangerously (and pathetically) tightly packed economy seats. Plus there was huge super fat guy next to me, breathing on me. OMG. That was by far, the LONGEST and most painful flight I have ever been on in a single aisle narrow and old ass plane. United SUCKS!
