I made a transcript and translation of what all the voices were a few years ago. I even managed to track down the German VA they hired for the role, lol. Working with the raw audio, I came up with a few differences I think I should point out. Einhänder is legendary. The graphics of this game were phenomenal for the PS1 era. Also, thank you for the translation!

I've been saying this for years now. Einhänder needs a remake! It's crazy how Square Enix is just sitting on this gem and not budging. Years ago I emailed Square Enix about it, and I actually got a reply. Whomever it was said they remembered the game, but said there were no plans for a remake or sequel.

Cool fact. in Final Fantasy XIV, there is a boss named Einhander in the dungeon The Keeper of the Lake. Comes equipped with talons to hold different weapons and a minigun is one of them.

Some mythological details were dropped from the overseas version to the U.S. one, however few, and the Great War was called WW3. The most noticeable omission is that the Earth forces are named SODOM after that ill-fated city in the Bible. So a mythos/Biblical reference here or there go without explicit mention and the concept of WW3 was removed in the States, plus the text scrolls on either side of the final stage read differently between here and overseas. The gallery images also differ between versions, and it takes going into them to get the names. Those were the only couple of things missed, so it wasn't that much. Other than this brief moment, great job on the coverage.

Did you know that you can destroy the reactors in Sturmvogel stage with just your hand? Glad to see someone else out here that loves this game as much as I do.

5:39 What I hear is "Einbrecher auf dem Deck." Which means "Intruder on deck." Although "Einbrecher" is more commonly used to describe a burglar. "Eindringling" would make more sense.

I really like that Einhander is a double entendre. It refers to both the mechanical arm of your ship and also the fact that you are single handedly facing an enormous army.

There *is* a secret boss accessible by destroying Scharzchgeist's top hatch, but it's just called the Monitor. Very small, jellyfish lookin thing that's fragile but spits out lots of bullets.

I don't speak German, but the title was easy to figure out considering the fact that entertainment media likes to bash it into our brains that zweihander often refers to a sword even though the word has many different contexts.

Fun fact: “Kolibri” comes from the Spanish word “colibrí”, also meaning hummingbird

Hi. Fallen doesnt mean to die. It means "to fall". The name of the mini is not grief, its Greif-name of fantasy bird/lion mix. And he says . "Follow the orders from above and land, otherwise we shoot you down".

First miniboss Greif's name is actually German too. It means Griffin, which is fitting for a robot that's part humanoid and part hovership since the Griffin is part lion and part eagle.

This game needs a REMAKE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!! Thanks for the translation!

Gustav translates loosely from Scandinavian as Staff of the Gods. Could be a play on words since staff also means worker. Seems like middle management of a garbage dump. Durer translates from Hungarian meaning door maker. This could be a reference to the heavier weapons that could blow a hole through you like the master key shotgun attachment. Either way great work. I loved this game as a kid and continue to mourn the loss of my Playstation one.

I believe what that first boss should have said was "Dies ist eine Warnung: lass deine Waffen fallen! which means "This is a warning: Drop your weapons!"

The enemy saying "du" is informal but not necessarily rude. It just implies a level of familiarity. If that's not the case, it can be considered rude but most Germans won't hate you for doing it. Especially if they know English and its lack of distinction between formal and informal "you". Also, a lot of the German in the game has broken grammar.

I used to watch my younger brother play this for HOURS! He actually sent me this video. You can't tell me Gecko isn't saying "loading disco music!" Also, Dragon is my favorite boss voice! You guys rock for creating this content!

Bless you for making this, I've wondered what they were saying for over twenty years. And yea I totally agree, they need to remake it. Game had AMAZING music and atmosphere. It was a solid rail shooter but the atmosphere stood in a class of it's own. It felt like a mix of star wars and blade runner. From the moment you selected your ship and pressed start, you were locked into this intense little world for about one earth hour.

Now the soundtrack makes sense . it always sounded like German techno/electronica to me

HAHA man, the skull lady billboard, I forgot about that! I remember when I first came across it playing and it was like super creepy as the whole game kinda gave me that feeling with the threatening German dialogue being projected loudly at me. I wasnt sure what to expect after the death billboard. lol wow Einhander, was so exciting when I first saw it in Playstation Underground previews discs way back when, the graphics look was just really cool looking without being overwhelming your visuals. Now I want to get my disassembled Playstation 1 back together and play these again!

Fantastic video. This was the best shooter, EVER, not to mention an awesome soundtrack. I remember playing it as a kid, JUST to hear the eng song "Earthlight", which I still have today. I would love to see a reboot of this game.

Einhander is probably the best shmup I have EVER played. The graphics and set pieces for this PSONE game are almost jaw dropping for the era.

This game and his sountrack are one of the best of the ps1 for me.

They could be saying a combination of the two for Gecko's lines, something along the lines of this: "One of the imprinted! Intruder alert! Locate! Eradicate!", or this, "Intruder alert! one of the imprinted! Locate! Eradicate!"

I absolutely love how they try to speak the german words. It is just soo cute for a person who actually knows how to speak german.

My mother is German and I asked her to translate this game when I was a child to her annoyance, I'm glad someone did a youtube video about it. Also the F-35 isn't the Thunderbird. Thunderbirds are a US Air Force demonstration squadron.

Man listen, this is my favorite game. I was always curious about the phrases because of how cool the sound. EXCELLENT WORK!!! Having this in the PSN would make 2020 worth the sadness... almost lol.

This was one of my fav games growing up and its so cool its German since I found out I am a quarter German and I have alot of German friends my one friend is actually coming to visit me from Germany and its his 1st time in the US.

Good stuff! I wish you had released this video a couple months before you did, because I could have referenced it on my podcast, when we covered it. I've long been a fan of Einhander, but never managed to beat it, at least on a single credit. This would have been good information to have for that episode, for sure.

The music in Einhander is masterful. I heavily recommend checking the "2197" Album too if you liked Einhander's OST. Ironically, Einhander's AST is weaker than the OST.
