LOVE them or HATE them, the watercolour "BLOOM" is one of the biggest challenges watercolourists face. Other names: cauliflower, blossom, spider and %^&*#!!!
In this video I'll give you tips on how and why a watercolor bloom forms by understanding the surface tension on your paper:
- Learn the cues to look for so that you can KNOW how wet your paper is.
- Learn that the amount of water or wet paint held in your brush vs the wetness of your paper determines whether or not a bloom will occur.
- Learn how to fix a watercolour bloom quickly if one appears.
- Learn the difference between , really wet / glossy paper, damp and almost dry paper.
I personally love the effect of watercolour blooms but, after 20+ years of working in the medium I am able to control my results and be proactive in the decision making as to whether I want them or not.
