I thought Petzl GriGri's would break the ropes if pulled hard enough but they slipped, even the 11mm rope. These were slow pull tests and I'm curious what will happen in future drop tower test of the same thing. We also tested a Beal Birdie which feels like a hardy steel body but I wasn't that fond of using it when it because it went from locked to open quickly.
OUR RESULTS:
*8mm vs GriGri - Slipped at 2.9kn and while holding tail 3.40kn
*10mm vs GriGri - Slipped at 7.30kn
*11mm vs GriGri - Slipped at 6.76kn, then tied tail off and guts exploded out of GriGri at 9.97kn
*Finished breaking grigri back pin with soft shackle at 15.45kn
*8mm vs Birdie - Slipped at 3.77kn
*10mm vs Birdie - Desheathed rope at 9.95kn
*11mm vs Birdie - Desheathed rope at 11.89kn
*Soft Shackle vs Birdie - 36kn
