A lot of teams are using rigging plates as master points for litters. I think the main concern is if the plate is loaded sideways. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNt-otecvL2weJs.htmlsi=TCQ7axSyC9McGu64

10 diameters apart sounds very plausible in good granite but I wonder if that’s “enough” in rock like sandstone or limestone? Also in building structural engineering we take the depth of the bolt into the material into account along the lines of the “intersecting angles” you mentioned.

I top rope often and use a equalette made from static line and steel biners...bomber, and the steel biners keeps the rope clean...I use tied 1 inch tubular webbing to extend anchors and the self adjusting nature of the equalette makes set up super easy....

Whenever there's a Tube style belay device vs. Assisted braking belay device discussion, one of the main points in favor of the assisted braking devices seems to be that if the belayer gets hit by a rock or otherwise incapacitated and looses grip of the brake strand of the rope then an assisted braking device will save the climber in case of a fall. But that isn't really what those devices are meant to do now is it?

So powercord shelves aren’t redundant under a load over knot mbs. But plenty redundant against cuts which is what we are after

Thanks for this video, I own the knife but was only using it as a light hiking knife so far. The slit in the handle seems perfectly designed to fit an elastic strap to prevent this issue, maybe they did consider it, but dropped the feature later on? I'll sew a strap on mine and evaluate the remaining risk, otherwise I'll put it in a pouch from now on.

I think I’ll stick with the GriGris prior to GriGri+ (which I might use if someone inexperienced is belaying me) until this one has been around a few years. (The big one is useful on thick static ropes). I had a nasty experience with the Cinch when that was pretty new, which might have been due to wear, but I don’t like using equipment that hasn’t been around a long time. For trad I’ve been happy with the Reverso and Juul (you can eg. belay two people if you’re in the middle of a three person team, which saves a lot of time). And for lead solo, the Silent Partner, and for top rope solo either a setup with a Duck w/ MicroTraxion backup or Asap without backup.

The MAIN difference on the safety side compared to an ATC is imo not the break assist but the indifference of the Neox and all Grigri versions to where the brake strand is directed/orineted. You can be holding the brake strand completely parallel to the load strand and it will still brake, while with an ATC you're left with the Rope bent around a karabiner 180° and literally no baking effekt.

I've only ever had problems paying out slack on a gri-gri when the rope was super old and furry. I literally hated the way you are supposed to give out slack so badly that I just leant to do the exact opposite of when you pull in slack - top hand down while pulling rope through with the dead hand and nuckles brushing technique - Basically bring the dead hand up next to the climbers rope and feed the rope baxk through the gri-gri at the same rate as you're pulling the rope out. It's quite finicky to learn, but it is possible...... I also spent about a MILLION hours belaying kids on climbing walls and high rope course's so I had plenty of time to practice 😂

Can you test 1 inch nylon webbing on 1 inch nylon webbing with heavy weight? Lately I've seen canyoneering anchors with an overhang on a bight tied to a loop around a chockstone, boulder, etc.

Would be interested to see a test of whether the worn notch would actually damage a rope at a certain point. Even if its not sharp, there have been cases where a relatively dull edge on a carabiner has cut a rope

You should do the half hitch. The webbing will be weaker but it's a known amount. The triloaded karabiner is an unknown quantity and your cant have safety margins if you dont know what your equipments rated for

When I first started climbing I had one of the original bod climbing harnesses that didn't have a belay loop. I used to have a "D" shaped maillion rapide on it so that I wasn't 3 way loading when I was belaying and had to explain 3 way loading to so many climbers who knew what it was but didn't realise that it could be achived using a climbing harness 😂

I've never once held a grigri open to get slack out, you feed the loose end into it while pulling out the climber side.

How smooth does it lower with skinny ropes 9.5 and lower? My biggest complaint with the Grigri is that although it feeds really smooth with skinny ropes, lowering with heavier climbers is either painfully slow or a free fall. I have to wear belay gloves to lower at a good speed.
